UPenn or Northwestern?

Yeah it was the hardest decision I've ever made but I went with UPenn. I'm still on the Stanford waitlist...haha...so if that turns into an offer (which it probably won't) I will be in another dilemma! But thanks to everyone for helping me out!

Too bad, coolcat - you'll have to change your name to coolquaker.

Oh, and MOWC, NU beat Penn in lacrosse!!

Does NU offer athletic scholarships for women's lacrosse?

The fact that an Ivy team got to a national championship game is remarkable. I think the last team to make it was Princeton's men's lacrosse team in 2001.

Since the score was 10-6, and that's a 4 point difference, and 4 is 67% of 6, I think we have proven conclusively that NU is 67% more sporty than Penn. And you thought we couldn't quantify the difference between two schools' athletic cultures, esp when one is an Ivy!

Lol Pizzagirl get over the fact that UPenn rocks. Coolca---quaker, chose penn. It's over. This thread should be dropped. Like now.

pizzagirl is very biased and most always wrong. maybe you should go outside sometime

Nice job by Northwestern. Penn, too, especially with no scholarships. I'm glad to see such great competition in a women's sport. I was also sorry to see Duke lose in the men's round. I was pulling for them.

Scholarships don't really matter as much in lax. It's not like lax programs have such huge budget to support full-tuition scholarship for everyone.

Nobody expected Northwestern to be competitive when the program was reinstated in the early 2000s. People weren't thinking, "Northwestern is having a team now and it gives scholarships; it's going to be better than any of the Ivies soon". The best players in high schools are mostly in the east coast; NU is far from getting all the best HS players.

I think the major reason why Northwestern did such a nice job is the players train and work harder than those in other teams. If you've been watching the games, Northwestern is the only team that plays high pressure defense like the men's teams do. Even "scholarship" teams like Virgina, Duke, or Maryland don't do that.

And of course, although not the championship game, don't forget that the Penn Women also made it to the final four last year. :)

^Dartmouth made it to the title game two years ago also. Again, scholarship or not isn't a huge factor in this sport. Ivy is a power league still.

"Lol Pizzagirl get over the fact that UPenn rocks."

@@ Now it's my turn to be taken out of context, apparently. I have repeatedly said that Penn is a fabulous school. I chose between Penn and NU myself and I could have easily gone the other way. I love the campus, I love Locust Walk and these are my two favorite colleges of all. It's a can't-go-wrong choice that boils down to personal preference, which in this case often boils down to Chicago vs Phila. See post #94 and stop misrepresenting me as a Penn hater. I had a Penn sticker on my car even when I was at NU!

why would you pick NU(Is that National university in San Diego?) over Penn?

Then I stand corrected with my Princeton assertion. It's still a remarkable achievement. Congrats to both the Quakers and the Wildcats.

@ Bescraze:
Because she was dropped on her head as a child, of course.

Or because some people decide to go to schools based on how much they like them and not based on rank. NU has some better programs than UPenn anyway... example: they have an undergrad communications school. Idk. I'm sticking with the first reason ;)

Funny, I don't see anyone with a Northwestern sticker on their cars at Penn ;)

Then again, almost no undergrad at Penn has a car.

That might say something about which school is really in a city ;)

Yeah, the most important thing in deciding on a college is the women's lacrosse team.

The Ivy League schools don't give athletic scholarships like President Clinton didn't have ___ with that woman, Miss Lewinsky. A technicality...

The reason you don't see any Northwestern stickers on cars around Penn is because anybody advertising they are from out of state will have his/her car stolen in like as long as it takes somebody to say Norm Snead.

If Philly is so great, how come the schools in Boston and New York are full of students from Pennsylvania who've bypassed Villanova, Penn, Drexel, Swarthmore, Haverford, LaSalle, st Joseph's , Temple, and Bryn Mawr?

Prove it. To this day, I have yet to see any evidence of money being funneled through boosters clubs or other conduits. No Ivy would be willing to sacrifice being kicked out of the League.

Of course, then Harvard got smart and decided they could give 95% of the country a "need-based" scholarship if they are accepted. Princeton and Yale followed. But Brown, Penn, and Cornell are going to be hurting.
