UPenn RD Class of 2022 Discussion

@stanford2022 To my knowledge your high school counselor uploads on common app and from their individual colleges download it if needed. Under Common App, My Colleges, each college has Recommenders and FERPA section and within that there is a Counselor section to see if college has downloaded or not. You may want to reach out your high school counselor to get that in common app.

Thanks. Is the mid-year report mandatory? None except two colleges asked for the mid-year report. And all other collegesā€™ portal shows application document complete and application under review. No mention of the mid-year report.

Hey there! I accidentally posted the wrong version of my applicant update sheet containing important information about my extracurriculars and family situation on the Penn Portal :frowning: My fault for naming the two versions such similar things. I emailed the Penn admissions email in the portal asking them to remove the older version. Is this going to affect me in any way? Will they read the version I asked them to remove?

@stanford2022 yes, according to the checklist on the Penn admissions page for RD applicants the mid year report ā€œMust be submitted directly by the school as soon as mid-year grades are available.ā€

Hello, everyone. I need some advice.

Since submitting my applicationā€”I applied RD in Decemberā€” something has occurred. Last week on Feb 10, I won the varsity league championship in high school wrestling in my weight class for the second year in a row. The first time that I won the varsity championship was in 2017 as a junior. Wrestling happens to be one of my most time-consuming ECs that I reported in the Common App, and I did disclose winning the 2016-2017 championship in my application.

Do you think winning the championship for the 2017-2018 season, and second year in a row, is noteworthy enough to warrant sending UPenn an update to my application?..or will they not care about something like that?

Thanks for any suggestions.

@KES2022 I honestly think you should send an update because it shows consistency, determination, and all. to you, sending it may not seem important but maybe the person analyzing your application may see something there. It also depends on you tho. I mean, what major do you plan on pursuing? and is sports ( wrestling ) going to be a big thing for you?

@Ebbie1, thanks for the response. Iā€™m pursuing computer science. I am not planning on sports as being a significant part of my college activities.

Should I upload a document from my portal stating the facts about the success I had this season?

@KES2022
Well, since sports isnā€™t a big part of your future itā€™s no problem.

But yeah, I think you should upload a concise document on your portal stating the accomplishment this season even if you arenā€™t pursuing sports after High School. (In case of anything)

@kekarino424 I would think they would want to read the update that is the most recent and up to date. They would want to judge your application in itā€™s most accurate form.

@KES2022 Yes go ahead and send the update, but keep it very brief and to the point. Shouldnā€™t take more than 1-2 sentences.

@aoeuidhtns, @Ebbie1, Thank you for the advice.

Yesterday I uploaded an application update from my UPenn portal in the form of a Word doc with a very brief account of the achievementā€”three relatively short sentences.

@MaybeHarvard2022 - ā€œPenn tends to only send likelies to nursing applicants apparently.ā€ My D applied nursing RD. Where did you hear that Penn sends likely letters to nursing students?

@Zingerdad on last yearā€™s thread the only applicants who mentioned receiving likely letters were nursing applicants. they received an email to check an update in their portal around the first and second weeks of March. However, Penn MAY send likelies to non-nursing studentsā€¦

Has Penn sent out Likely Letters already for this year? Anyone got it?

@PPofEngrDr @aoeuidhtns I think 2nd interviews may have come into the conversation because I mentioned being offered a second interview.

Quite upset. Still havenā€™t received any interview invite for all the RD schools applied :((

@Laketahoe79 Sigh, youā€™re not alone. Itā€™s quite frustrating tbh. Iā€™m literally refreshing my mail and hoping for some change.

@Laketahoe79 and @Ebbie1

Remember the primary goal of the interview is to be informational.

For instance, in some cases the interview information may be used as one of many factors in the large, holistic admission system. You already attended over three years worth of classes, spent countless hours studying, took a standardized exam (or two, or three), wrote several admission essays, and much more. You might be a volunteer, researcher, athlete, programmer, entrepreneur, or all of the above. Thatā€™s what they are basing your admission decision on. Think of the interview as a supplemental addendum to your total application. An interview is not a high stakes, make- or-break event. They envision the interview as a casual conversation, or a sharing of ideas.
To that end, it serves another purpose. In addition to learning more about the school, you will learn more about your interviewer, their experiences at at the school and the exciting things they have been doing since. They hope this will heighten your interest in studying at the school as well.

I agree with @Volunteerism
I am an International applicant from Bombay, India, and I was interviewed by the Penn Western India Alumni Interview Committee on Feb 10th. It appears they invited all RD applicants from the western part of India to this face-to-face interviews, which happened throughout the morning. However the invitation clearly mentioned that if I am unable to attend, I could either ask for a telephonic/skype interview, or even skip it altogether without any adverse effect on the admission decision. Judging also by what transpired in my interview, I doubt any important decision is going to be made on the basis of it.

@Volunteerism and @India2018 . I guess Iā€™m partially bothered by the fact that almost everyone who applied to Penn has gotten interviewed and it seems weird that I wasnā€™t called for one 'cause itā€™ll be really nice to get a chance and have one. However, from what you both wrote, Iā€™m pretty sure it could tilt in favor for some people but isnā€™t a major or core minor consideration for most. Thanks thanks!

@India2018 Are there honestly that many students applying to Penn from India?
