UPenn RD Class of 2022 Discussion

thanks I agree @skieurope I love research. Cant wait to pursue my doctorate and publish!

Brown announced the 28th as well

Looks like the Ivies are switching to 7PM ET this year.

7PM? That’s weird, I thought they usually did 5.

@JayZee21 thanks! which university? w the special scholarship? jw

Really not comfortable saying. Please forgive me

@sadgirl2017
(1) A waiver means you can skip the class, but it does not add a credit to your total count of class credits. For example, if you take AP French, you will not only place out of language, but you will also get 1 credit toward your degree — i.e., Wharton requires a minimum of 37 credits to graduate.

(2) Personal opinion as someone who used the waivers-- I would take both exams to try to place out of ECON 10. It’s going to be the same exact material as AP Micro/Macro and you can better spend your time taking other classes. Also, if you get a 5 on AP Micro, but not Macro, then you can instead take ECON 2 (macro) at Penn instead of ECON 10 (micro+macro).

@divarose Your school counselor should not be sending any transcripts/letters for this applicant if they were already accepted. Even if money was an issue, they should have withdrawn months ago. You might want to approach your hs first, but it’s a tricky situation especially if you’re not 100% clear on the family financials and what’s fact vs. fiction.

@ashley676 You definitely don’t need any research experience, but it would help if your application is geared toward pursuing a doctorate or toward studying some kind of natural science. What’s more important is becoming involved in something you’re passionate about, and getting that across in the story you craft through your essays+ECs.

Hello guys, anyone from Africa here, I’m very nervous about this admission thing
anyone knows what to do???

Hi, I am a Penn ED deferred applicant. In the portal, I was told that the selection committee has deferred a decision on my application until March 28, 2018. So I can confirm the notification date is March 28th.

Yes

this thread is surprisingly quiet

Probably because decisions are far away
Some colleges are already releasing.

The silence of this thread is the sound of fear and anxiety.

Did you guys apply to dual-degree programs? Huntsman is my dream, but I know the chances are phenomenally slim

That is totally crappy. A student who has no knowledge of what transpired between 2 parties in years past will pay for their mistake with their admission status. Makes no sense whatsoever. Wow. :frowning:

@Laurrah Hi!, I’m from Africa.

I believe the new time is 7PM. Swarthmore released decisions today by 7PM ET .(1AM where I live)

@Annie12 – It might be crappy, and even unfair to the future students, but it really does make perfect sense. Remember - there is a 3rd party to the ED agreement, the school guidance office. My understanding is that the agreement needs to be signed by the student, parents and the school. The school is really the party being punished for facilitating the transgression and being unable to police the agreement with its student. Future students are merely the innocent victims.

If this were not the case, cheating on ED commitments would be rampant, and the system would collapse on itself. Fear of this very consequence is why most guidance offices would never process any paperwork for a student admitted under a binding ED agreement unless and until the student declined the ED acceptance, if financial considerations precluded the student from accepting the offer. Again, if this were not the case, many would take advantage of the admission preference given to ED applicants and then shop their ED acceptances looking for better offers, and there would be no binding ED system!

Hello, I am a Nigerian applying RD

I bet this thread will be flooded soon enough.

I imagine this thread will be filled with sorrow and joy in about a week or so
