UPenn RD Class of 2022 Discussion

@MaybeHarvard2022 Whaaaaat

Hey everyone! I’m applying to Penn’s CAS for a Bio major. I submitted my app on the 3rd and I’m completely stressed out. I’m also still waiting for an email about an interview.

Does anyone who has already had their interview have any tips? Advice on what to expect?

@ashley676 I think in general it depends on who your interviewer is but always do research on your school first (specific classes, majors, extracurriculars, what makes Penn unique, etc.)! In my case, my Penn interviewer was a lot more casual than a previous interviewer I had for another school and didn’t ask any “hard” questions. She basically asked me what I was interested in. I had prepped beforehand (HIGHLY recommend doing this) so the answers came easily to me and I was able to hit all of my strong points like leadership and whatnot. This was different from a friend’s interview with another Penn alumnus, whose first question was “Why Penn?”. Don’t be nervous! If you prep, you’ll do well! Good luck

yeah, i had a similar experience. my interview was super casual-- only 25 minutes! the interviewer asked more questions about me than about penn, but i incorporated what i loved about penn in my answers. i pretty much just explained my interests and how i would continue those interests at penn. however, each interviewer is different so be prepared to talk for up to 1.5 hours.

thank you

Has anyone else been offered a phone interview vs. in-person?

Yes! got interviewed in November for regular decision. It was awesome!

I’ve applied as “Undecided-Interdisciplinary” in CAS. Will it hurt my chances? I want to do something in the field of Scientific Policy.

Just received an email from an alumni about my Penn interview. I applied on the 5th. If you applied before I did and still didn’t receive anything, I wouldn’t worry about it. The deadline for interview report submission is apparently February 15, so there’s still time. Also, I live in PA, so if you live in an underrepresented state that may be the reason why you don’t get anything about an interview.

My D17 got scheduled for an interview a few weeks ago - got the email about 4 days after submitting her application. It was 30 minutes away at a lawyer’s office, male interviewer. We drove there, waited a bit, and then she gets brought back for the interview. 3 minutes later she comes out with the interviewer - he says “Your daughter babysit’s my kids, I can’t interview her as it would be a conflict of interest”. What are the odds
30 mins away and the interviewer ends up being from your small town and you babysit their kids!? lol. My D never met the father so we had no idea when we went in.

Unfortunately she hasn’t heard back about an interview with someone else yet, I hope they are able to schedule one.

Is it common for someone from a large city to not be contacted for an interview? and does it affect your application if you aren’t?

@lrose00 same situation. I’m from NYC and I haven’t heard any news about interviews yet :((

Looks like Ivy Day is gonna be March 28
I haven’t gotten an interview but idk how many alumni interviewers there are in NV

Still terrified bc no interview yet

@musicandscience me too. interviews are given out randomly/not given to everyone, but a part of me keeps on wondering if there is any meaning behind who gets interviews and when they get one

NYC also and no interview. I don’t know anyone else in my school applying RD (a few ED), but my friend from another NYC school also hasn’t heard. @musicandscience

We are on Long Island and my D had her interview yesterday,

My Long Island friends have heard back about interviews. I’m considering sending an email if I don’t hear from them this week. I’d really love to interview

Any other Internationals gotten interviews? Mine’s next week eeek
Tips?
