UPenn vs. Cornell vs. Brown vs. Columbia

I am really happy with the choices I have for college but I honestly can't decide where to go. I feel like each of them has a distinct factor that appeals to me.

I am a female going into Mechanical Engineer. However, I'm really unsure about how dedicated I am to strict engineering. I think I might mix and match a little bit in college. Engineering and some.

I haven't been to visit Brown and Cornell campuses yet. I would prefer a rural campus, but thats not really a priority, just a place with lawns and greenery. I love what I have heard about some of the outdoor activities that Cornell offers like sailing, horseback riding, hiking, and just great facilities. Wonder if any of you know how realistic this actually is or how it compairs to the other schools.

I would appreciate any feedback or personal experiences. Thanks for any opinions.

well it sounds like you like what you’ve heard about the cornell experience most, and they do indeed have those activities in their phys ed classes (so jealous)

but wait to decide on your own first based on your campus visits - don’t let other people’s perceptions sway and bias your independent first judgment

If you want a place with lawns and greenery, I think you would lean a bit more toward Cornell and Brown. Penn and Columbia are definitely in the cities (and this can be very depressing to some)

^well, it doesn’t get much more depressing than Cornell, lol. (j/k)

but seriously, it sounds like you like Cornell better… they definitely have that campus environment that you’re looking for.

and you said you’re going into Mechanical Engineering… Cornell has an awesome engineering program, and their facilities and resources in that area blow those other schools away. it sounds like you want to go to Cornell.

But you’ll be around to see Penn Park (a new large urban greenspace being built on top of what was once a mix of parking lot and quasi-abandoned post-industrial wasteland). THat will be epic.
