UPenn/WashU/Yale SCEA/Duke?? Rising Senior Chances :)

Hello! I put pretty much everything I could think of on here... Grades, classes, etc. So I guess I'll just put the full list of colleges then... Thanks! If you want me to chance you back let me know but keep in mind: I'm 17. But, then again, so are you. I'm pretty confident with my academic portion. I should have decent recs. But I'm not sure about EC's. Pretty much nothing I can do at this point but... Just wondering if my list is too ambitious.

Oh. And I’m a white female.

I think what you should do is plan out how you’re going to list your extracurriculars on your Common App in the section which asks you to list your 10 extracurricular activities/volunteer/work experience. Once you post that on here, it’ll be much easier to think about your extracurriculars as the college admissions officers will, because you won’t be writing out everything there as you are here. :)

But your academics are seriously mindblowing!!! Based on just those alone - you definitely stand an AMAZING chance. Just wondering - but how you do have a GPA that’s over 5.0? And what state are you from?

Your ACT and GPA are both really good, and your EC’s are pretty good. I’d say your definitely a good candidate for those schools.

Northwestern- match
Columbia - mid-reach
Notre Dame - match
U of Pennsylvania -low/mid reach
Yale- mid/high reach (it is for anyone)
Duke - high match
WashU - high match
UMichigan - low match
Emory - match
Rice - match
Tulane - safety
University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign - safety

Good luck!

It’s over 5.0 because of A+ which are worth 5.3
That is also weighted though.
So unweighted… idk. Like a 4.0 let’s say?

That’s a really odd grading scale. Colleges will self deflate UT to about a 4.5 since duke and most other colleges run off a 4.0 scale with any A in AP classes being designated a 5.0

Considering your main ECs are: choir, math, soccer, I would say your ECs do show passion and not just a little bit of everything like so many people do these days, but they’re still a bit on the low side for some of the more competitive schools you want to apply to. But I would assume that your volunteering does help and so does that County Wide award you’ve received! And NHS of course! Your academics are really outstanding though, so that’s definitely going to give you a HUGE push, since that is the main factor in an admissions decision. So I’d say:

Northwestern: match
Columbia: mid reach
Notre Dame: accepted
U of Pennsylvania: low reach
Yale: high reach
Duke: low reach
WashU: match
UMichigan: accepted
Emory: accepted
Rice: accepted
Tulane: not too familiar
University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign: not too familiar

Hope this helps and good luck! :)

Woah sorry. Gotta make a correction. Thanks for the chance but soccer is NOT one of my main ECs. It’s rec. Like… everyone sucks. I play in fall for fun. It’s my best sport and I’m completely average at it. Not on the school team or anything. Well freshman year… but that’s it. Replace soccer with volunteer work. Haha. Sorry. I just don’t want to confuse people into thinking I’m good at sports. :D

Taking into account your ethnicity and your academic resume (so many A’s… xD), I’d say you’ve a very strong application. Loving the rank (1/900) unless it’s a type? 1st in 900 people in your grade?

Anyways, ACT is good, SAT II Chemistry I suggest a retake because most people get 800 on that (800 is 93 percentile? I believe). GOOOOODO volunteer and pretty good awards, showing well-roundedness. You a VERY good chance at Ivies; just keep doing what you’re doing

If you have time, chance mine:

your academics are amazing… getting A+'s so much

Northwestern - high match
Columbia - reach
Notre Dame - match
U of Pennsylvania - mid reach
Yale - reach
Duke - mid reach
WashU - high match
UMichigan - match
Emory - match / high match… idk this school
Rice - high match (they pick only a few)
Tulane - safety?? again, idk this school much
University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign - match

Northwestern - low low reach
Columbia - reach
Notre Dame - match
U of Pennsylvania - reach
Yale - high reach
Duke - low-mid reach
WashU
UMichigan - in
Emory - match
Rice - high match/low reach
Tulane - match
University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign

I left some blank because I don’t know those schools that well. I know you tried to organize your ECs to highlight interests (I did the same), but it doesn’t seem like you have done anything super special in any one area. Other than that, your stats look good and your volunteer work looks pretty good, too! I’d say you have a fair chance at your reach schools!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1179664-meow-i-like-princeton-williams-yale-dartmouth-guess-if-they-like-me-back.html

Northwestern - Match
Columbia - High reach
Notre Dame - Low match
U of Pennsylvania - Reach
Yale - High Reach
Duke - Low reach / high match
WashU - Low reach / high match
UMichigan - Low match
Emory - Match
Rice - Match
Tulane - Don’t know too much about
University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign - Match

I think you’re well rounded, but not well rounded enough to get into some Ivies. Your number 1 ranking and GPA are very impressive, but you lack “major” achievements in your EC’s to truly show your passion. That being said, “major” is subjective, and if you can showcase your love through your essays, you’ll do well.

Good luck!

…bump…
