This is kind of a general question. In college do you have to take a lower level class to get into an upper level class. Like do you have to take Bio 101 to take Bio 201? Also is it the same thing for subjects like Philosophy and Psychology etc.? Like can a freshman take Psychology 300 in the first semester?

There is no biol101. The introductory course for biology majors is biol201, which is accompanied by the biol203 lab. Courses usually list pre- and corequisites in their descriptions. For example, here are the courses offered in the biology department:

Just look at each course you want to take specifically. The Biol 300s require Biol 201, Biol 202, Chem 141, and Chem 142 (or 181/182). All of this can be bypassed with IB/AP credit. They've also just changed it such that you can take 300, 301, and 302 in any order if you're doing a Bio major.

Another example where you would really have to look at the courses individually would be psych. In psychology, generally the 200 level classes, which are many (Learning, Animal Behavior, Perception, Social Psyc, etc), don't have Psyc101 as a prereq, though it's recommended. To take the first statistical methods class, Psyc305, you'll need at least one lower level Psyc class (Psyc 101 or one of the 200s) and to take 306 you need 305 with a minimum grade (something like a C- so it's not a big deal). Other 300 level classes require like six credits of psyc and/or certain prereqs in the 200s beforehand or instructor permission.

Basically everything is quite variable and its best just to use the COD to look at everything you're interested in specifically.
