Upper vs. Lower division classes

What are the differences between the two? For someone on the premed track, should he/she only take upper division courses?

You can't, being premed only requires you to take the weeder lower division courses. Nothing in upper division is required except for MCB102.

Upper divs generally expect you to have some knowledge about the subject, or at least be a good enough student to get through the supposedly (I wouldn't know) more demanding classes. All freshman are advised to avoid the upper divs in at least their first semester, but some students ignore this (it seems fairly few). Just don't enroll in anything above the course number 100. Take only lower div for at least a semester, probably a year to maybe two.

Some majors don't really need you to take a prereq class. For example Poli Sci requires you to take Poli Sci 3 -Research methods for the major, but there are many graduating seniors in the class. It's by no means necessary for many classes.

For some majors however it is highly necessary. You probably won't understand much in MCB unless you've taken physics and o-chem.

Sometimes people have to take certain classes to declare a certain major, which might be important for various reasons.

o, thanks for feedbacks

and whats the registeration date for incoming freshmen?

Your registration for classes is during CalSO.
