i'm going to be a freshman, and i want to register for an upper division course economics 100. the notes on the schedule say its restricted to sophmores and upperclassmen, and something about a class entry code. How do i get the class entry code, and will i be able to get it since ive completed the lower div requirement for this subject?

E-mail the professor.

Have you gone to CalSO? If not, let me tell you what your advisor will say. He or she will tell you, "You should not take upper-division classes as a freshman." Unless you are some economics expert or other great exception, perhaps this advice should be followed.

...or passed the AP Econ test with a 4 or better, I think. You need Econ 1 (General Economics) or equivalent before you take 100AB. (Macro/Micro)

I took upper divs as a Freshman. It's no big deal. In fact, I liked the Upper Divs a lot more than the lower div classes I took. Did better too!

Yeah, if you really want to take the course, just contact the prof and try to convince him/her to give you the code.

I'll try that. Andrewtdx, how exactly did you go about signing up for those classes?

Upper division courses are specifically designed for Juniors and Seniors with a few exceptions including PS 159 (the one with lecturers coming in) and IDS something.

Did it like everyone else, tele-bears. If the upper-div doesn't have a pre-req, and most don't -- unless you are in a specialized field like science, math, or engineering, you can take any class you want as long as you can do the work.

im in engineering, but i have the qualifications to take econ 100, and it doesnt mess up my commitment to engineering in any way.

Then go for it.

i took english 135ac my first semester here, it wasnt particularly hard but i had to get the course entry code to get into the class
