there's a lot of posts about freshmen dorms so I figured I'd start one on upperclassmen undergrad dorms. I'm an upperclassmen who has always lived off-campus but I'm applying for a dorm next semester (Sping 2010) My friends live mostly in Palladium, Gramercy and Carlyle so i'm trying to find out about the others...and yeah i've looked at the housing site already. I specifically want to hear about:

Broome Street
Coral Towers (I love the location, it's so close to my job)
Greenwich Hotel
Lafayette (looks really far)

what do you think the chances are of me getting a dorm? i'm not guaranteed housing and I just sent in my app (it's due next week). I know they're trying to get more commuters to move on campus, I keep getting emails about that from housing.

search this forum for Lafayette, because I’ve written A LOT about Lafayette in here. i lived there for two years. i’m in Palladium now.

thanks MAC, I looked at this thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/new-york-university/759340-housing-assignments-5.html#post1063280637 and it seems some other upperclassmen (futurenyustudent) had really bad experiences in Lafayette, and i’ve heard bad things about it as well…it’s far, some rooms are super tiny. I’m also applying for the low-cost dorms and suites so i’m worried the rooms will be really small. Lafayette is also in a crappy area, although right now I live off-campus (in manhattan) so it’s much closer to campus than where I am now.

I’m really loving Coral Towers and Broome St and Greenwich Hotel look ok…I think greenwich is better than broome location-wise (and I’ve decided to move on campus to be closer, so location makes a big difference).

if any other upperclassmen want to chime in, i’d appreciate it :)

I feel like such a freshmen, excited to be moving into a dorm for the first time lol.

I had a huge room in Lafayette. I obsessively looked at room numbers and was overall obsessed with the Lottery for a good week, so I made sure to get my roommate and I into a good room.

My roommate was in LCT in Lafayette and it was kind of small.

Coral is in a nice location, but all of the rooms I’ve seen there just look kind of grimey and rundown. The rooms there are a crapshoot as well, some were really big and some were really tiny.

I’m an upperclassman in Lafayette. You’ll find my thoughts about Lafayette throughout the thread you linked. I have a really nice dorm. If you live in Lafayette, a monthly subway pass is highly recommended. With that, it’s really not far at all from “campus.”

I got put into 26th St, which i’ve heard is the worst dorm small, really far from campus, and mostly medical/dental students because of the location. The location doesn’t bother me because I commute from off-campus right now, and the room size isn’t a big deal, but I wish it had a dining hall…I wonder if Gramercy has a dining hall? it’s pretty close to there

any opinions on 26th St? it’s literally 4 blocks from where I work, so that’s one thing i’m very happy with! never visited it so I have no clue what it’s like

Gramercy doesn’t have a dining hall.
