For the semi-private singles in IV, can your suitemate/you go into each other's rooms through the bathroom? Or can you only exit/enter the bathroom through your door?

Also for the single economy rooms, how small are they exactly? I lived in a standard freshman double my first year so how does the size compare? Are they smaller than the standard freshman singles?

And for single/double economy rooms along Huntington Ave/the Steins/St. Stephen's etc, is each individual bedroom within the apartment locked (requiring card swipe)? Or is the only form of security the outer apartment door?

Suites are essentially like living in a normal apartment. Generally, bathrooms are not connected to bedrooms by a door. There’s a hallway with doors leading to separate bedrooms and the bathroom. You swipe to get into the entire suite. Unless things have changed since I lived in dorms (which is possible) your bedroom does not have a swipe lock. Some have handle locks that could be used while you’re in your room.

The bedrooms of economy suites probably aren’t significantly smaller than standard bedrooms, but the apartment as a whole is smaller (at least in my experience). I’ve seen some teeny-tiny economy suites.

Emily, I think you are thinking of non-IV “suites”. In IV I’m nearly certain (based on people talking about them, since I’ve never lived there) that there are doors between the bathroom/sink/etc and the other person’s room. I’m not entirely sure how the lock situations work, but from what I understand, there are doors.

There are a lot of dorms where your particular room has a swipe lock as well, actually. West Village is nearly all that way. Other dorms have separate locks also on door, if you use keys (so you’d have two keys). All of your roommates have keys/card access to the main door, but only you and your roommate have keys/card access to your bedroom. There may be a few that aren’t this way, but I don’t know which ones.

Yes, if you live in a semi-private single in IV, it is possible for the individual with whom you share a bathroom to enter your room. When someone is in the bathroom, there is a button to lock the doors from the inside, but otherwise there isn’t anything stopping anyone from moving between the two rooms.

If you go to myNEU, you can actually see floor plans and 360 tours of almost all the upperclassman dorms. Go to the housing online in the self service tab.
