Please recommend me the best critical reading and writing prep book for the SAT

the ones that are sold separately (by sections of the test)

I already have the SAT book from Collegeboard and Princeton Review
I just have to work on the writing/grammar and CR

Thanks in advance

I'd like to purchase it really soon (like, perhaps, tomorrow)
So it's sort of an urgent question...
Any legit response would be appreciated

The PR book is the best for verbal overall...have you gone through it yet? The CR methods are good and it has templates for the essays. For grammar, I would get Grammar Smart.

In my opinion, I think Critical Reading prep books are useless....

The best CR prep is to read magazines like Scientific American, Time, The New Yorker, etc.; this helps increase your reading repertoire, in addition to vocabulary.

If you want a really good writing prep book, get Kaplan's SAT II Writing, a stand-alone prep book when writing was still an SAT II.

neoprototypeazn - damn dude, thats pretty sweet. i think i'm in the same boat as the poster here... i got an 800 on math, and then 620CR and 660WR. honestly, i'd rather have triple 700 - or at least something more evenly distributed - than have the lop-sided scores that i have.

so grammatix really works, huh? i'll have to check that out. what's grammar smart? are the two book pretty much the same?

and one other thing, you went from 620 to 750 in reading or writing??? (after using grammatix) you said "cr" but assuming that stands for critical reading, i find it interesting that a grammar book helped your reading score... did you mean to say that for the writing section??

grammatix is a company. i was referring to its sat preparation book. the math and writing sections in the book are pretty useless, but the critical reading section definitely makes up for them. i recommend reading the cr portion of the book two to three times, understanding mike's examples, and practicing with real test questions. i started practicing about 2 weeks before the test and even managed to score a few 800s on my practice tests after a week of practice. grammar smart is a concise, easy to read grammar book. since i never learned grammar in school, grammar smart really helped my writing score (600 something to 740).
