ok, well here's the situation (and worse of all i have to make a decision by tomorrow):

i've been on JV track and JV cross country for a year now (sophmore year)

right now i'm in my junior year, and i know i'm going to continue to take track, but i'm not sure i want to dedicate the 3 hours a day to cross country

why i'm stuck between two choices:

i'm planning on applying to UCLA and berkeley - would they since the stop of cross country as a sign of no dedication? would this hurt my chances of admission? also, is there another simple way to make up for this? i know i'm already in my junior year, so would starting another sort of EC (and continuing it towards senior year of course) show enough dedication? i'm already volunteering at a local library, so i'm kinda out of ideas as what else to do

thanks

I don't think UCs really give a **** about normal ECs like that. Unless you can run a mile under 5:00 **** XC.

Here is a magic formula for UC admission.

4.3 weighted gpa + 2150 = admission to all UCs.

haha thanks

my mile time is around 6:00 so i'm pretty much the JV no one cares about (and i don't really care about cross country either..track is much more fun, i'm only in XC for college admissions)

but weighted GPA is only 4.1 but i have 2 800's for SAT2 (that's if i don't some how mess up on my october math2c test) so i'm gonna have to count on my SAT I's

You don't need a 4.3 UC GPA to get into Berkeley. I had a 3.96, but then my class matriculated 50 people there...

I also had no ECs, whatsoever...

Though my SAT I + 2 SAT IIs = 3900/4000...

Just do the best you can on the SAT I and Math IIC (Recommend the TI-89, so no arithmetic by hand if you know how to solve equations symbolically on it).

Drop Cross Country if you want because UCs seriously don't care about ECs if you have Test Scores & GPA.

thank you guys!

just saved me $50 and a lot of extra time :D

3.96 and getting into berkeley is a bit lucky.

4.3 is a safe bet for berkeley instate. 4.2 is still a contender. 4.1 gets 50/50.
