Urgent Hand-Scoring Advice Needed.

I'm planning on sending in the handscoring request form by the end of today, or by tomorrow. However, I really think I should've scored a 750+ on my history (730) and likewise with Biology (700). In all honesty, I'd really like to hear if anyone has requested handscoring first hand, and if there scores went up or down. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, everyone.

whats handscoring request?

CashM88, a hand-scoring request is a call for the SAT people to look over your answer document by hand. You must pay a fee ($30) and send in a form. People request hand-scoring when they believe that the scantron that graded their test made a mistake. Scantron mistakes are most likely in instances where your answer document contained many smudges and eraser marks. If they find an error in grading, your $30 will be refunded. The only downside (besides the potential loss of another $30 into the vast coffers of CB/ETS) is the possibility that your score may go down.

To the OP: Go for it! If you don’t get it hand scored, you will always wonder if you deserved a better score than you received. Then if you don’t get in somewhere, you will always wonder if a few points more on those SAT II’s would have made the difference. If you truly believe that there was a scoring error that prevented you from receiving the grade you deserved, your scores have a much greater likelihood (in my opinion) of going up rather than down. Also, it seems much more likely that the scantron would mark something WRONG that was actually RIGHT than the other way around. All it takes for a question to be counted wrong is for the machine to register more than one bubble having been filled in. it seems much more probable that there would be a smudge in an extra bubble (thus registering as 2 answers) than that there would happen to be a smudge in the bubble for the correct answer and that the bubble that you filled in just magically didn’t show up. I think the odds are either neutral or in your favor. Good Luck!

I think you should do what you think you should do...which is going for it, I assume. Personally, I wouldn't do it. It seems like a waste of money. I mean sometimes you expect a certain score, almost in denial, but most of the time there isn't a mistake.

bump guys; I need some more opinions.

First of all, the only reason why you would request a hand score is if you feel like you did much better than what you received

So why would you worry about your score going down? Don't you have any confidence in your abilities? If thats the case then just save your money.

Very slim chance that the machine messed up both your tests. IMO I think its just another CB way to get money because I have yet to hear or seen a person who got a different score after handscoring.

Niece got absolutely horrible scores on two SAT IIs. She requested a handscore and the scores did not change. Her scores were totally out of line. Who knows?

No, I really feel that my history test should have been much higher. I'm just wondering if I should maybe do my Biology test for the heck of it. I mean, I do remember erasing erratically on test day. I just don't know.

You have about a 98% chance that you just scored lower than you expected; it takes a BIG smudge to mess the scantron up. I'd suggest you get over it. (No offense, you wnated advice)
Also, it would take a lot of smudged answers to get your score up 50 points.

anyone else?
