I wish to go to medical school.
Should I apply to mathematics or biology?
*As my ECs and scores show, I love mathematics. But as for my future occupation, I wish to become a doctor. What should I do! Should I write in the essay that I want to study mathematics but want to become a doctor? I want to become a doctor because I'm planning to spend most of my life in Africa to cure people and spread gospel (my family members and relatives are all devout Christians) just like my idol, Dr. Noguchi, did. Please give me an advice! Thank You! (Oh, I'm applying to CAS, which is a hugh reach for me currently b/c of my low SAT score..... but I will raise it up for sure!) THANK YOU!! Oh, and do you think I have any chance if I get over 2200+ in SAT?
Do you think, in your opinion, I will stand a better chance getting in if i choose math major? Thank you!

You seem very enthusiastic about Duke; that's a point in your favor. :) Being an international will hurt your application, but not applying for financial aid (if you're SURE) will somewhat offset that. Your GPA is good, but your SAT isn't (practice!!!). Your ecs are solid, and your awards look good. Get that SAT up, write excellent essays, and you have a good shot.

Don't worry about your major conflicting with pre-med. Biology is much, much more popular than math at Duke...showing a strong interest in math can only help your application. You can major in ANYTHING and go to med school; the majors with the highest acceptance rates to med school are philosophy and music.

I love duke so much it's my top choice.... I have dreamed of going there since i was a child..... anyways...... so as an international and looking at other stats, what's the range should I get? (For ex. 2200-2250)
and do u know if duke looks at best SECTION or best score by DATES?
THANK YOU!@!

whats so impoortant and uragent abou tthis?

lol the duke math team needs krazy math geniuses like you.
good luck
u can tutor me once we get in
im still stuck here tryin to figure out my single var hw problems.... XD
=D

Duke's math team? Lol, were you on Canada's IMO team? Otherwise, get those standardized test scores up and concentrate on good recs and essays.

Duke has a few extra optional essays, so start writing early and do them.

Oh, and math is a fine major for med school. Part of the MCAT is calculus.

Last thing, since English is not your first language, the CR and W scores probably don't matter, so everything with math/sci MUST be 700+ to offset that.

Otherwise, it seems like you'd be a great applicant for Duke, I'm not sure what would keep you out, but with international students you never know unfortunately.

Are you applying ED or RD?
