I am new here and I signed up because I need to find an answer to my situation. So please be kind! :)

Overview:
-on an H4 visa now
-attending a community college, transferring this fall 2011
-on the process of college applications
-transferring with a perfect GPA

BUT, I have a problem. Since I am an international student, the school wants me to submit a Confidential Financial Statement (CFS), which I can't show because we are not that rich. My application is otherwise complete, all I need to do is to turn in the CFS. I planned to use loans to finance my 2 years in that school but I can't apply for the loans since I am not yet enrolled. I contacted the school and they said that there is nothing that can be done until I turn in the CFS. How can I turn in the CFS when I can't show that I have enough funding? I am not expecting any financial aid or whatsoever...

If I don't solve this, I might stop school for a while and just stay at home since I am on H4 and H4 people can't work. Urgh.

Where exactly were you going to get those loans to pay for your education? You need to find a less expensive college to transfer to, or study part-time.

And if you have a perfect GPA, why on earth didn’t you apply anywhere that could give you financial aid? Yes, it is harder for international students and for transfer students to find aid, but it is out there!

Yes, I know very well that I can’t be going to an expensive school. That’s why I applied to the cheapest on base on my situation (instate tuition, near from home, but I would still have to go to the dorms because driving for 2 hours to get to sch wastes time.)

I planned to get some privateloans to help cover the remaining ones that we can’t pay.

I"m just wondering how am I going to fill up that CFS.

Thanks for your reply.

btw, I don’t care the rank of the school I go to, I just want a degree.

Are you applying for a student visa? If you stay on your H-1 visa, the college shouldn’t need financial statements at all. Those are only necessary to process F-1 and J-1 visa applications.

The bad news is that there isn’t much you can do if the university insists on it. Do they have any suggestions for how to proceed? It might help to meet with a staff member in person. I found that officials are much more accommodating for live people than anonymous email messages.

If the admissions office cannot help you, try the financial aid and international student offices. They might have worked with students in similar situations before.

No, I am not applying for a student visa. And yes, the university insists on seeing the financial statements whether they need the I-20 or not.

I have talked to the international admissions and financial aid office. And both insist on seeing the financial statements before they would admit me. If not, there is nothing that can be done till then.

I figured someone in this forum might have gone through the same situation as me…
