<p>Can you ask your professors to customize the letters? i.e. use 'Harvard, or whatever' rather than 'your univeristy' Is this too rude or something?? i'm applying to 6..

<p>I'm sure if you provided your profs with an extended reasoning as to why you want to apply each school and allowed enough time for the recs to be written, then you would be within your rights to ask the prof for a customization. But, I don't think it would make that big of a difference.</p>
<p>If the professor is from a particular university, he probably WOULD use that unversity's name (or if he knows enough about their programs). I had a faculty rec from a research institution that directly named two of the their affiliate institutions I was applying to on my rec.</p>
<p>better buy them nice presents and kiss up a little bc that is a little bit inconvenient</p>
