Hi everyone,
I am a transfer student currently accepted to the College of Arts and Science as an incoming junior. I want to pursue a career in finance in the future so it’d be very helpful to transfer into Marshall. Is it still possible to get into Marshall as I start my third year of college? Any information would be appreciated!! Thanks!
You need to call your advisor or a Marshall advisor. They may not let you change right away and/or it could mean another year of school. So ask them. Changing majors isn’t the same for transfers as it is for students that start at USC.
Did you just decide about a change of majors?
Thanks for replying! @CADREAMIN
I contacted the Marshall office twice and the same representative picked up the phone telling me that as long as I complete three prerequisites (one math, one writing, and one business econ course), I am eligible for transferring into Marshall regardless of my year in college (junior standing). It’s good news but I doubt that it will be so easy to get into Marshall, given the fact that it is such a prestigious school. Then I asked if I can talk to any of the academic counselors at Marshall but the representative told me they do not face students outside of Marshall.
What should I do now?
That’s great news! Actually, I think it is that easy once in USC. I thought I remembered one of the other schools within USC saying you had to wait a year (which juniors don’t have) but it doesn’t sound like that is case with Marshall. Econ is incredibly important to get done asap as it is the beginning of a chain of prereq’s needed for business. So even if the only time open is an 8am Monday class, you gotta get in it.
If you talked to the Marshall office you should be good. If you want to contact your admissions counselor to see if you get the same answer (and you should) just to make you feel better, do that. But it seems you are good to go!
I know that for Viterbi, they want to see a 3.0 average in some core courses. So it does sound like taking the courses (econ, math) and getting a B or better is how you’d do the switch for Marshall. Of course, I’m not sure if getting these grades guarantees the internal transfer will go through, but I don’t see why not. I assume they just want to see if you can handle econ/math.
