Urgent question regarding teacher recs...

I have this one dilemma that nobody has really given me a right answer for, so here goes:

I'm applying to JHU early decision and eleven other schools regular decision. All my teachers prefer to send in their recommendations through the mail, which means that I need a lot of envelopes (My opinion anyway...) I want to give all three of my teachers who have agreed to write my recommendations for me all the envelopes for every school at one time. However, I am worried that since I have not begun applying to every single school yet, the colleges won't know that I'm sending in my recommendations and they'll all just get lost or something.

I want to know the best method for mailing in the applications (my teachers are doing it themselves so I need to notify them as soon as possible because they are understandably busy). Should I just give them the JHU envelope? Or all of them at once?

bump…

Colleges are used to getting various paperwork like this. They prefer not: for them, paperless is the way to go. But, some teachers are old-fashioned.

It’s fine to give them all the envelopes at once. Be sure to write on the front bottom left corner: Teacher rec. for Your Name, class of 2015, RD. The colleges will start a file for you once they get them. And be sure they have a stamp.

The only caution that I have is this: be certain of your choices. Don’t switch from RD to EA or your application may end up getting lost. And be reluctant to add any extra colleges, which is tempting. It’s hard on the teachers.

You have to remember that admissions personnel do this for a living. Everyone gets so worked up about lost materials when, in reality, it doesn’t happen that often.

They’ll start a file for you and everything will be good. Include your SSN if you feel like you have a fairly common name.

I’m applying early action (I already submitted my actual app online with EA stated) and gave out my teacher and counselor rec forms this week. I didn’t specify EA on the papers anywhere. Do you think this will cause any issues?

darn, I gave in my envelopes today and I didn’t write anything on the front bottom left corner, however I told the teachers the school what school I was applying to. I suppose I will email them to clarify this information, in case they forget.

Thanks for all of your help :)

and nineum, maybe you could email your teachers as well?

The teachers already know that I’m applying EA, but I just didn’t know that anything was supposed to be written on the rec forms regarding that.

I would still encourage you to email your teachers and ask them to put the early action on your rec forms. It wouldn’t hurt.

I forgot to put my school’s CEEB code and I just emailed my teacher apologizing and asking if they could add that in the specified area.
