Guys, I'm kinda freaking out right now. So I applied to dartmouth college and since they require a peer recommendation, I asked my friend to write one. She put a title "Dartmouth peer evaluation" on the evaluation... And I sent that recommendation to Cornell as "Other Recommender". Will this have any negative repercussions on my application or will it just be viewed as a "mistake" on the recommender's part? Please any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm still freaking and stress out ugh

Don’t stress you still have time until the deadline to work out those issues. Just call admissions tomorrow and ask them about it.

Yeah I was going to call them tomorrow for sure. I just wanted to know cc’s opinion about this. Hopefully, the admission’s office has good news :/

I don’t see them holding it against you unless your friend said things to the effect of Dartmouth being your first choice or similar

@mistanervous oh my god…I think my friend wrote something along the lines of " (My name) will be able to use dartmouth’s liberal arts college education to prosper" My friend never said anything about my opinion about dartmouth, so that’s a plus? this is horrible, and i cant even remove the rec b/c it’s already been submitted…

@larkings It’s submitted by the peer, but I accidentally assigned it to Cornell w/o double checking @.@ Hopefully, admissions will be forgiving and remove it from my app :/

Uhm… Have fun in Dartmouth?

There is nothing wrong with saying “(My name) will be able to use dartmouth’s liberal arts college education to prosper” at all in my opinion. Students are always trying to find what about each school would be good for them. I wouldn’t worry if I were you.

I am sure you are the first to have done this. I also don’t think they would hold it against you for applying to Dartmouth and 10+ other schools. Just email admission to let them know it was a mistake.

Of course if your friend wrote, “I know Dartmouth is my friend’s first choice and he has dreamed of going Dartmouth since he was 5,” then it maybe more of a problem.

I just got off the phone with admissions. They said they can unfortunately not remove any recommendations once i’ve submitted the app and the rec; however, i can have my peer recommender email a “revised” version and hopefully that one will be subsituted with the dartmouth one. I guess all I can do now is pray. I’ll have my fingers crossed the whole time haha

Wishing you the best of luck.

@mistanervous thanks I really hope this stupid mistake doesn’t cost me the chance to go to Cornell. The rec was 9/10 stuff about me and the ending was a few sentences about what i could do at dartmouth. In addition, the admissions office kinda hinted at the fact they don’t consider peer recs at all, even if submitted. So here’s to hoping they just ignore that.

@holdfort Nothing about me saying “Dartmouth is the best school for me” or anything like that. So hopefully that helps me out

This is a classic. Maybe it’ll make you feel better:

LOL that was great. Clam farts supposedly “got” him into Yale. Too bad my blunder isn’t nearly as funny it’s more like “You just screwed up” rather than “This is so hilarious I’m gonna accept this kid.”

Maybe it all happened for a reason. Maybe your friend’s recommendation is the tipping factor that gets you into Cornell. Just maybe. Good luck!

@jdroid haha well let’s keep our hopes up Thanks!
