Very pleased with URI’s financial aid package (it didn’t come to us…we had to search for it on e-campus). In addition to a merit grant they also offered a financial aid grant and work study (which, surprisingly, some of my son’s other choices have not done). While we haven’t received Penn State’s financial aid package yet – and I don’t expect it to be anywhere near as generous as URI – I’m not sure the superior economics of URI will sway my son from University Park/State College. Maybe once he sees the numbers in black and white and realizes the impact it will have on him… (I know the impact it will have on me! My deal with him is 50/50 after a base contribution)
@brucemag …what did he decided? I have kids at both schools!
Hi @Twinmom2014 – I followed you to the PSU Parents page on Facebook…maybe I’ll follow you to a URI parents’ page! Actually no final decision has been made. We just received the Penn State non-Financial Aid offer (not sure why colleges can actually act like a federally available student loan or a parents’ loan is their ‘financial aid’) and will sit down this weekend. We’ll see. I don’t think either would be a mistake for my son. But my retirement might prefer URI!
@brucemag We are now leaning towards URI for three reasons based on our decision matrix. First, the employment salaries (in CE) are the same at the ten year mark for the expensive school versus URI. Why pay more? Number two is the large cost savings and number three is the relatively new Digital Forensics and Cyber Security Center.
