work your butt off senior year 1st semester and raise your gpa. do that and you'll most likely be accepted into atleast 3 of your reaches, and all of you matches, and safteties.

thanks for the response, im applying rd to all those schools except tech so lets hope your right, anyone else?

Your rank is really too low for a lot of these schools. Even though you're a URM.

what is urm?

underrepresented minority

i know my rank is low. but i have an explanation, there is a science and math magnet in my school, and they begin to earn quality points in the ninth grades, while non magnet honors students can only begin to earn quality points in 10th grade, my counselor will explain this, the highest ranking non magnet student is like in the upper 20's anyway, if i make all a's first semester i should be around top 12 %

besides rank and gpa how do my other stats look? thanks

Ok. Good but not great. All your reaches will have more impressive kids to choose.

thanks........

I'd say you get in thanks to URM.

No! I hate this misconception. A given Ivy League class will have anywhere from 70-100 black students. There are 800 National Achievement Finalists every year, more than enough to fill out the Ivy League.

These top schools do not need to accept a lower caliber of student just to round out their minority numbers. And unless a student comes from a very low income family (we're talking less than $30k for a family of four here) they WILL NOT make allowances for URM status.

Obviously the OP is a qualified applicant and has a good shot, but it is in no way a guarantee or even a great shot. URM or not.

If you get all A's first semester, you'll probably get into one of your reaches.

well just for the sake of argument, their might be 800 national achievement finalist each year, but that doesn't mean that they all scored amazingly high on the sat I mean the NA cut-off is usually around high 180's to low 190's, and we know that those scores are not exactly ivy league caliber, I mean just look at the SAT statistics only a small fraction of African-American score above 2100 on the SAT, In this respect NA finalist means nothing

^ i'd have to agree w/ thingsfallapart. but ses, you are right that not every urm w/ a 2100+ is guaranteed acceptance into an ivy, however, it is very probable.

Harvard actually takes about 150 black kids, but honestly, i don't think your GPA or rank is high enough. you explained your rank, but what's up with the GPA?

I mean, even though you are a minority, i'd still say that Harvard, Princeton, and Yale are crapshoots.

You have the test scores and ecs, but not the grades or rank, so it could honestly go either way.

Thingsfallapart, I sent you a pm

You've taken 9 AP's, but you're barely in the top 20%???? How does that work? If you did that at my school, you'd be at least top 5%!

^ not if you got C's and B's in them.

All A's first quarter and you're into cornell
