For the common app prompt, "Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story. "
Would it be good to talk about how I am multiracial and how it has shaped me? I feel like I can write a very good essay but I don’t know if it will seem like I am trying too hard to use race to my advantage.
BTW I am Filipino, African American, Polish, Mexican, and Cherokee.
Thanks!
Yes yes yes and yes. You are a URM, and the more “Diverse” you sound, the more colleges will like you. Definitely go for it.
I would think yes, but it might be overdone. I can see how this type of essay may have been written before. Remember they are looking for something uniquely yours. Remember the girl who got into Yale and Auburn writing about the anticipated delicious cheesiness goodness in the warm pizza box after the delivery boy rings the doorbell that sound like fallen rain.
I would take one tiny snapshot from that experience and write about it.
