Urm?

Is half black/white considered a URM or minority at all?

As wrong and as racist as this might seem, I think it depends a lot on your skin color, family background, and experiences growing up.

My question really is, since college's wont know the color of my skin, will it help me to check african amercan/black and to also check white.

What race does your high school have you marked as? You should go with that.

it just says other

Haha okay well if I were in your position I'd put down black (or whatever this week's PC term is).

Although you should consult with someone more experienced than me. I am not a counselor.

drjay:

Hey man, it is written in the UC application that "they do no consider your race towards your admission...it is optional"

I found it on the application instruction page 17...read it and tell me what you think.

I was talking about private colleges, not UCs.

I'm also half/half...I thought of it in this way - what do you consider yourself to be? If someone were to ask in person, what would your impulse answer be?

Wouldn't he just say he's 50% both? That's the response I'd give. I find it hard to forsake one part of my ancestry in favor of another. Why not embrace the whole?

doesn't the common app say check all that apply? just do that.

im half hispanic but i always put myself down as hispanic, even though I look white, I'm in the upper-middle-class and I've grown up around 'white kids'.

I personally feel more hispanic than white... so go with what you feel like
