Curious to know experience with how much this is used and amounts used? Any thoughts?

Flex accounts (UROS) can be used for just about everything on campus. You must use flex for the dorm vending machines, the dorm laundry and any copying/printing at the library.

Flex can also be used to purchase textbooks, school and electronic supplies (computer & TV cables, lab notebooks, printer ink, etc) at the bookstore. Flex can also be used at just about every vendor on campus.

It’s convenient. It’s easy to use and there is absolutely no reason for a student to carry cash on campus.

You (the parent) can add $$ to the flex at anytime via the guest deposit at the my.rochester.edu page. ($20 minimum deposit.)

How much you might want to put in depends on how your student is going to use the account–and whether you want to underwrite stuff like using the dorm washing machines or coffee at Starbucks.

I usually give D a set small amount for each semester (usually $50-$75.) I add to it if she is buying her textbooks at the Bookstore (sometimes more cost effective than purchasing & shipping lots of used paperbacks) or if she has a class that printing intensive. (She doesn’t have a printer.)

YMMV

I knew you’d have a useful answer. Thanks.

My others at other schools almost never used the “flex dollars” or “points” or whatever they’re called at other schools.
