US Coast Guard Academy BASED OFF FRESHMEN

Do I have a chance based off of my freshmen year?

First off, I'd like to say that I spent absolutely zero time on academics this year, and I'm set on changing that in future years.

My grades were...

Honors Advanced Algebra 2 - B (84)
Honors English - A (93)
Spanish 1 - A (97)
World History - A (96)
Concert Band - A (105+)
Gym - A (100)
Health - A- (92)
Biology - A- (92)

I participated in multiple sports as well. I was the captain of the Freshmen soccer team. I was a varsity letterman in track and field, and was in the top 10 freshmen in the state in three different events. I'm a member of Student Council. In Concert Band, I was section leader for all three trimesters.

For sophomore year, my schedule is...

Pre-Calculus
Honors English 10
Chemistry
Spanish 2
AP History
Wind Ensemble (Concert Band)
Digital Photography (for my technology credit required to graduate)

I'm on the advanced math course, taking Pre-Calc my sophomore year. I'm on the honors english track, too. I was admitted over multiple seniors into the top concert band in my school based on a tryout. I was elected into a Chair-member position in my student council, which means I'll be leading a third of the 45-member council. I'll most likely be captain of the JV soccer team again next year.

In addition, my older sister is currently attending the academy. I've heard this greatly increases your chances of getting in. my grandfather retired from the Coast Guard at a high rank, and is able to help talk to recruiters for me.

So, I was wondering what my chances are of getting into the Coast Guard Academy, or any other service academy? My grades next year will definitely be better, as I've already begun taking distractions out of my environment.

Thanks!

(added in a few minutes after posted)

I also took a Pre-ACT test and was predicted between a 32-34 on my ACT

Participate in quality ECs; do something that helps people and that you are interested in. Volunteering will help you out a lot. Aim for around 200 hours of QUALITY service before you graduate. It’s pretty difficult to tell at this point but I would recommend that you get better grades and take harder classes as well. Dont worry too much about your freshmen grades as long as you start getting straight A’s because schools like to see improvement. I am not religious and I don’t know if you are, but definitely getting involved in a church looks really good to service schools. You are doing well in sports so that is good. My advice: Don’t assume things anymore; make them happen.

Oops, I’ve forgotten something thats relatively important.

THis past summer I flew down to Ecuador and volunteered at a Children’s Camp. We stayed for about 9 days before coming back.

For volunteering, my older brother who’s an upcoming senior is very diligent in working at a soup kitchen every weekend. I’m going to start volunteering with him this year as well.

And, out of curiosity, what can be counted as volunteer hours?

We can’t reasonably judge your stats solely based on freshman year. You’re on the right track though!
