Hey there cornelldart… you mustn’t lose hope like that. Surely you can get into a good US University provided you are capable and hard-working. Try and be exceptionally good at studies and have loads of EC’s so that when the time comes you’ll be bombarded with scholarships.

However being exceptionally good sounds amazing but the path to become the exceptionally good one is extremely tiring and full of distractions. So try and get rid of them.

Dream on!

One important questn, can a poor transcript destroy my whole application?

You go to college for academics and then the other things. So the first filter your application will have pass through is definitely the academics ie. your GPA. So try to have those colleges on your list that match your GPA and SAT score to begin with.

I have the sat but not those impressive gpa!.. wat to do

hey… just curious to know one more thing so here’s a situation—

a guy (let him be X) completes his high schul in d yr 2013 through cbse. he takes a gap year for his jee prep for which he will be appearing in d year 2014 but he suddenly decides to study in usa so can he apply to us colleges dat yr i.e. 2014 be it ED or RD? Specially ED.

if he didn’t spend the year in some great activities. …I would suggest he appears for jee. …and get a SUPERB rank…that way he has an option (IIT) at hand. …and good jee rank (<100 ) looks really impressive on the college app

He can apply ED or RD
Colleges specifically look if you have simply taken the gap year coz you slacked of in your 12th…or whether you actually did something substantial in your gap year. If you can prove that a gap year was required, through your activities, it will not affect his application too much

Bt wen i asked d admissions dat whether i can apply ED or not, they said that i can apply for fall 2015…sum1 xplain dat!

hello… anybody there?

ED- Early Decision- You get a decision at an earlier date, for ED I by December 15th and for ED II by February 15th, and it is binding. You can apply to only one college for ED and Susequently ED II and if you are accepted you need to withdraw all other applications. Only few colleges offer ED II.

RD- Regular Decision For this the application deadline is 1 January for most colleges and you get decisions by last week of March. And if you apply in say 10 colleges and get accepted in all 10 of them, in that case you have about one month to decide which one you wish to accept as accpetance deadline is 1st May in most colleges.

Whether ED or RD, In your case you will be applying for the Class of 2018 which is the year you graduate from college. So the college for you will begin September 2014, which is also called Fall 2014. I understand you are already done with Class 12 and are currently in your gap year. And you are eligible to apply this year for the Class of 2018.

I do not know why they said you have to apply for fall 2015.

nw i got d point. Thank u so much!

Dis 1 is really tricky n i failed to get any answer by googling about dis.
can u leave any govt or pvt university in india after a semester??

If you are already in college then you take a transfer. And transfers can happen in second year or third year of college. I now understand why they told you to apply in Fall 2015, because by then you would have finished first year of college here in India.

Only if you have taken a gap year and not enrolled in a college in India then you can apply for first year of college in US.

No u r wrong…i told u b4 dat i’ve taken a drop dis yr mainly for my jee prep…n i’ve enrolled myself in aakash institute.
n wat i asked u was just supposition!

I am not wrong. I assumed because of your query. I think you need to tone down your conversation. Because today you might get away with that but some of the folks here on CC will not be so accomodating. Remember you are the one who has questions and looking for answers.

My intentions were not to hurt u…n by d way i m nt so gud at english, so sumtimes i say the wrong thing.
u will be surprised to knw dat i re-read my post at least 5 times before posting it here!
I am really sorry for my words!

No problems. But really politeness will take you far in life.
