US History for the SAT Subject Test. AP or not?

I decided to take the US History SAT Subject test. I am using Khan Academy in order to be ready. Is studying simple US History (not AP)for the test enough? Do I need to study AP for the SAT?

Note: I am an international student so i don’t take any US History classes in school

Why are you choosing this particular subject test? It seems an odd choice to self-study for an international who has never studied US History before. I would suggest choosing a different subject test.

I don’t know the exact answer to your question about Khan, but keep in mind that students who take the US History subject test will be doing so after learning US History throughout elementary and middle school, not to mention living in the US, in addition to a required high school course. And yes, as you mentioned, many will be taking the subject test immediately following the APUSH course.

If you do take the subject test, at a minimum, I would get a prep book and take sample tests.

@evergreen5 Actually I am really into History. I want to study international Affairs and Political studies. Studying US History for the sat will help know more about the country I am planning to live in. I am not really good in science so i cant sit for math and science subject tests. Literature is not an option since my english is not that best yet and wont be in the time i will be sitting for the exams.

The US SAT Subject Test is extremely difficult in the fact that it is so detail-oriented. You need to know the specific facts of the question being asked. Studying simple US history will probably not be adequate, unless the studying is extremely rigorous. I found the subject test to be even more difficult than the AP Exam. By all means, take the test. But prepare well.
