I'm not taking APUSH, because my school does not offer it. However, I did take U.S. History during my sophomore year and received an A. I really like U.S. History, because I find it interesting and I have an easier time memorizing facts, names, dates, etc. Should I consider taking the SAT II's for US History, even if I have not taken APUSH and stuff? Is it really difficult?

If you have the self motivation and determination to buy an AP review book and make sure you know the terms and information in it, then yes, you should do it. For me personally, if I had to study on my own, I would never have gotten my five.

My APUSH teacher was pretty awful, so I basically learned the content on my own. Use the AMSCO AP History book, it's incredible.

The SAT II seemed way more factoid oriented than the AP test, so if that's how you think you should be good. I think that studying for the SAT II helped me on the AP test, but not really the other way around (if that makes any sense). I used Princeton Review, but a friend had some kind of flash card set, so if you're doing long-term studying that might be helpful.

Would I be at a disadvantaged if I am not taking APUSH? Or would I be in the same boat as everyone else, if I just got a book and studied my butt off?
