I am an international here and am interested in taking US History. I have no background in US History or world history or any history.. I only know some history about the world war from grade 6,7,8.. would studying the sparknotes be sufficient to gimme a 700 or even more?

how about world history? i know there are no sparknotes on them

I self-studied with very little background. I used the Sparknotes and another book (I don't remember by who), and got a 770. I think that the Sparknotes are a great start, but I would recommend at least reading another book, because every book emphasizes different things and explains things differently, so you get a fuller picture.

**** you think if i get a book tomorrow i will be able to review with just a week till testing.. i read spark notes 90% through for a first time.

Thanks

I did it in about a week, but I'm homeschooled and spent a lot of time on it. What I did:

Read through the sparknotes, either once or twice (don't remember).

Read through the Barron's, or whatever the book I had was, once.

Made several hundred flash cards of names, bills and laws, and basically anything bold on the Sparknotes. I reviewed those the last night for a couple hours till I had them down.

You're already really really crunched for time, so if getting another book would make it impossible to learn the Sparknotes sufficiently, don't. But if you can pull it off, it would help.

Thanks...I guess I should buy a ton of flash cards...I have the Cracking book by PR so tomorrow I'll start going over it.

I've taken AP US History last year. I did very well in that class. My teacher made us learn so much!!! I got a 5 on the exam so what do you guys think I should get on the SAT 2? Please help thanks.

Also does anyone think it's crazy that there's 90 questions in an hour????

the time seems to be fine to me.. now i gotta get my score up after my first practice test was a 640

hey sciencenerd. ap us history is very different from the subject test. ap us history tends to be more big concepts and trends and ideas, but the sats tend to be a little more ridiculous about the small facts. like which of the following authors did this-and-this? type of thing..

I agree with skimmedmilk. I didn't practice for the US History SAT II expecting it to be easier than the AP US... I found out the hard way...

wait, so it's actually harder???

If you are expecting big picture questions, then yes. It's a lot more about the boring details.
