US News 2007 Rankings

Zach -
"I never prospied or toured anywhere, but if I did, I'm sure that I would wear at the least a nice shirt, probably unbuttoned at the neck. "

Good choice, and I wish you well in your tours and interviews. In this case, the young man was wearing a navy blazer with a crest, tie, impeccably pressed trousers and shined shoes. It was a warm day; the blazer wasn't to keep him from freezing.

Your theory of a later in the day event is certainly possible. In this case, however, I mentioned that I had chatted with them, and they were off to the next school in the tour.

"I'm also in favor of school uniforms in high school (girls show way too much skin!)."

To each his own.

although the whining has gotten pretty annoying, lets sympathize for a second. I do feel a little sorry for the high school applicants who witnessed this past rank jump. I'm not saying that the competition will necessarily get more severe, but the psychological stress that a student must go through to get into a college they love is hard enough. Add this rank shift to an already stressed out mind is probably brutal. good luck.

i wish the admissions officer wud post something on this thread ; P

rubs temples

Diocletion, you should know that Chicago students, prospects and parents will happily argue all sides (in n-space) of an issue!

This just in, Princeton Review named the University of Chicago the No. 1 School for Undergraduate Academics. Check out their press release on their website.

Princeton review's rankings change so randomly from year to year. We weren't even top ten last year. I wonder if this means they raised our academic rating.

Here is the site:

http://www.princetonreview.com/college/research/articles/rankingspr07.asp

I believe that the Princeton review ranked UChicago 1st in academics a couple of years ago as well.

Yes, year before last Chicago was listed as #1. Last year it dropped from an Academic rating of 99 to 86, must be back to 99. Since it is based on both institutional data and student surveys, they probably surveyed Diocletian and the rest of his anti-ratings ilk. :)

Chicagoans, don't brag. BYU made #1 twice on those lists!

I wonder what kid of questions about fun are posted on their forum?

Chicago also ranked number 3 for Library, number 6 for "students never stop studying" (come on, only number 6?), number 12 for most politically active, and number 14 for "intercollegiate sports unpopular or nonexistent" in the Princeton Review rankings.

There was also a sequence on Good Morning America this morning highlighting the University and its number 1 rating for best overall academics. Pictures of campus, etc.

"I will more than happily eat my hat if I'm wrong."

Eh hem. Pictures?
;)

Good Morning America video: Fluff, but nice to see U of C getting good press.

FWIW - this video makes the grandparents really happy!

Haha, go Chicago. Wesleyan Jumped up too ;-)

(It's still ten to your nine, blast you haha).

I met a UChicago Student when I was working in Uganda this summer, and she, sadly, had no interest in Scav Hunt, the final time track team streakers in the library, and other Crazy UChicago things. She said she pretty much lived in the library working though (a chacun son gout i suppose).

I worked and talked with her when I was there and she said that many students are dissapointed when they get to UChicago because the 'Life of the Mind' bit isn't as real as they'd want it to be. Now, I'm not a Chicago student (or an Admit), so I don't know how true this is. But compared to what the situation was like in years past, I believe this wouldn't be too far from the truth as the population is slightly more driven by numbers and the like.

For the record, the student was a rising senior, so she's been around a bit. Hat's off to any of you students if you know her (she was quite annoyed I didn't make it in, she said my crude humor would have made me a perfect fit haha).

As at any other school, the students at Chicago will exhibit a range of intellectualism - and it is possible that your friend is pretty hard core (in a good sense, of course) even for Chicago.

Congrat's to Wesleyan on both the USNEWS and PR lists - but you're going to have to tell us if its inclusion on the "Birkenstock-Wearing, Tree-Hugging, Clove-Smoking Vegetarians School Type" list is deserved or not!

I think I'm buying a rastafarian hat/hemp clothes or sandals so I fit in this year :-P

(Just kidding).

I actually haven't looked at the PR lists yet. Maybe i'll read them later for some laughs.

They are pretty funny. I've been razing one of my coworkers about OU (his alma mater) dropping to sixth place on the party list. He is not a party animal at all so it is very silly.
