Last year, Chicago is #5, tie with 4 others, that is top 9.
This year, I guess, Chicago will be at #4 position, tie with Columbia, Stanford, and MIT, at top 7 position.

Well, we didn’t get on the best value top 10 list, but we were #11 last year, so I don’t know if that will affect the rank.

If I had to guess, I would say the top 12 are:
- Harvard
- Princeton
- Yale
- MIT
- Stanford
- UChicago
- Cal Tech
- Columbia
- Penn
- Duke
- Dartmouth
- Northwestern

Mathematically, Chicago actually has a stronger case than last year, with a significantly increased alumni donation rate and % graduating in top 10% of high school class. That would indicate that Chicago should at the least keep its #5 position, but you never know. I guess we’ll find out tomorrow.

Just wondering. Are the rankings coming out tomorrow based off of the Class of 2012’s statistics or Class of 2011?

I don’t see Chicago falling in the rankings. It makes a strong case for continued inclusion amongst the top schools in the country.

Most data are based on Class of 2015’s statistics, not on incoming class of 2016’s.

Looks like US News dumped Wake Forest from the top 25 list. Not surprised.

UChicago #4

My estimate is accurate, unfortunately Stanford and MIT did not make it, but they are the next, #6.

it came out?

Yep, here’s the top 10:

1) Harvard, Princeton
3) Yale
4) Columbia and UChicago
6) Stanford and MIT
8) Duke and Penn
10) CalTech and Dartmouth

Lol, there seems to have been some sort of preference for pairs and even numbers in the top 10 this year…except for, of course, the elusive #2, but neither Princeton nor Harvard would stand for that.

What’s interesting is that even at #4, Chicago has a lot of leeway to make improvements. In particular:
- US News’ alumni donation rate is calculated by averaging the last 2 years of data. That means that for this year, it was (33+37)/2=35%, up 2.5 points from 32.5% the year before. Next year will be (37+40)/2=38.5%, up 3.5 points from this year.
- Chicago’s high school counselor rating is still low at 4.6. I’m guessing that Chicago was very very borderline this year, and will probably move up to 4.7 or 4.8 next year. In any case, it’s a pretty clear demonstration that high school counselors don’t know too much about universities, but we knew that already.
