Us news rankings 2011

Not to mention how much better Duke’s football program is than Stanford’s. Oh wait. . . Nevermind. ;)

also richard nixon was a dukie and herbert hoover went to stanford, so edge— duke

Nixon went to Duke for grad school only, which doesn’t account for anything here on CC…

“also richard nixon was a dukie and herbert hoover went to stanford, so edge— duke”

given Hoover’s very notable accomplishments outside the Presidency, plus Nixon’s dubious ethics both in and out of the office, the edge must go to Hoover and Stanford. Anyway, Duke is a fine institution but Stanford is a notch above, without question.

Okay…can we please stop talking about this? Serious people at Duke and other institutions that I’ve talked to tacitly know that Duke and UChicago are honorary members of the “Columbia, Dartmouth, Brown, UPenn, and Cornell” class of the Ivy League.
Stanford and MIT are an honorary members of the HYP Ivy League.
Its really unofficial, but yeah, its the general gist of it.
As a Dukey (I hate it when people spell it Dukie), I admit Stanford is “better.”

But MIT pwns Stanfy =P so I’m happy.
That rhymes.

Can we talk about UMich and Northwestern or something?

what are the chances of NYU catching up to USC?

Dookies can be so sensitive.

Hey guys. I just want to say that here in Turkey noone knows anything about Stanford but Duke is considered as one of the best schools in the world. That may be because the daughter of the coach of the national football team went to Duke so the school was on the focus of the Turkish media for a looong time. Anyway the result is that if you ask a person on street in Turkey he would definitely say Duke>>>>Stanford.

^^^^But in the real world…Stanford>Duke.

chocolatecream, we have 50 colleagues in our office in Istanbul. According to the ones I spoke to on the subject (only a handful I grant you), the only US universities that are famous among Turkey’s corporate elite are Columbia, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, MIT and Stanford. Those are the universities that several of Turkey’s chief industrialists (the Dogan siblings, Mehmet Tara, Rahmi Koch and Bulent Eczacibasi) have attended.

Honestly, I have never heard of a football coach’s child’s university being the object of media attention anywhere on Earth. I am a huge fan of French and German football, but I have no clue where their coaches went to college…let alone where their kids went to college.

Can we talk about UMich and Northwestern or something?

Sure PA of Northwestern 4.3
PA of Duke 4.4
PA of Michigan 4.4

PA of Berkeley 4.7

PA of Stanford 4.9

See where Duke really fits in?

Very true. Duke is well known and popular mostly in the South. Stanford is well known and popular mostly in the World.

I think that with the HS counselors PA being worked in the rankings, Duke is probably going to go down a point or two. Look for Brown and Dartmouth to gain. HS counselors advice is based on undergraduate education and not on whether the institution is a research power house. I think that schools known for being a great undergrad experience will likely benefit.

Princeton will go back to number 1
Yale may be number 2
Harvard may drop to 3 (gasp!)

This may be really close to what happens. I would put Princeton at 1. Duke will probably drop out of the top 10.

Ha, I like how the last 10 or so posts have just been putting down Duke. Hopefully they know we are just joking. Duke is of course an amazing school, prestigous, and fun school. No real disrespect is intended.
^I agree with those rankings.

“Dookies can be so sensitive.”

And UMichigan students can be so aggressive and persistent in putting down another school. ;)

so Northwestern will drop 9+ spots out of the top 20? hmm :/

Wash U needs to get out of there. I mean seriously. I could see Rice going up a bit more, it’s starting to gain more notoriety (at least in the college application culture in my area). I feel like the issues in the UC System might bring Berkley down, same for Michigan… people have probably already said that I just don’t feel like reading through 30+ pages of comments.

Your right. That is not likely to happen. Probably it will be around 13-14. HS counselors are not too hot with Wash U. It will prob drop.

“And UMichigan students can be so aggressive and persistent in putting down another school.”

Confusedboy, care to back that statement with evidence. If anything, it is students and alums of private universities that are persistent in putting down schools like Michigan.
