FSU is ranked first by US News for the second year in a row. Very nice accomplishment.

Nice. I wonder what happens when we starting getting that $15 million extra per year?

Investing in faculty in crucial STEM fields, to start.

For a ranking such as this? Probably not as big of a change as one might think, to be honest. But this ranking seems very convoluted. I didn’t do too much digging (much of the data one would actually want to see appears to be something you have to pay for) but finding out what data US News is using to come up with these lists is difficult.

They say they rank it as amount spent per student, per point earned in some financial index… but I can’t find this supposed index anymore.

I don’t put too much stock into rankings like these. There isn’t enough info easily available to see how US News came up with this. It’s one of those things that it’s cool to think that this university does more with less, but at the same time it doesn’t look like there is an easy way to rank exactly how that works…

I think this one seems straight forward-

“fiscal year financial resources per student divided by its overall score the basis U.S. News uses to determine its overall numerical rank in the 2014 Best Colleges rankings.”

It’s how they determine that base ranking that is really convoluted.
