US PhD Bio/biomedical/lifesciences international interviews & acceptances fall 2011

UTHSC-Houston- waitlisted.

hi humarti,
when did you submit your utah app and when did you get acceptance.

I submitted Utah app probably just one week before the deadline (which makes it 7-8 Dec I guess) and one of my LOR barely catched the deadline. They sent acceptance email on 14th Feb and the fed-ex package I received is dated 14th Feb as well.
Good luck!

thanx hurmati… submitted mine oneday before deadline, havent heard from them yet.

anyways…my first acceptance from Duke-NUS,Singapore.

need to complete interview for UIUC/MCB and then decide.anyone have thoughts on the
molecular cell biology program at UIUC?

@fallbiomed2011: congrats on your duke-nus acceptance.

thanx jlin84

Hi,
I got into PhD program for biomedical sciences at penn state (school of medicine) and univ. of Connecticut (Health Center)… they both seemed very similar to me… got any suggestions on which one is better?

I think Penn State is better in terms of facility, faculties and grad students^^

umass med acceptance

@fallbiomed - congrats… i haven’t heard from them yet. application says Under Review.
Have heard from any of the univs I applied to though.

hi graddreams,
i mailed the admissions dept of umass for info on decisions as I need to quickly decide on another school. They promptly sent back saying that the international list has been finalized and they will be letting people know in a couple of days.even i havent received the official email but nevertheless have been told that i have been accepted.

anyone have thoughts on UMASS medical school for PhD…please post.

@fallbiomed - nice… :slight_smile:
hey… did u have an interview for Umass?

no interview for internationals…except for I think internationals in US undergraduate schools(they would have been invited for the applicant day).

Graddreams …what do you make of UMASS med…is it a good school to attend?

@fallbiomed - As a school i think Umass med is good. Depends on your other options too, since u have been accepted at other places. :)

Umass med is in an interesting situation right now. In certain departments there’s a little flux going on - no matter where you look there’s a great depth of wonderful research. The fact that you come in under an umbrella programs is a huge asset; you get to rotate with basically any department you’re interested in (IE hop from Neuro to one of the RNAi labs to Immunology). I can tell you this upcoming years class will be smaller than normal because they brought in about 80 of us this past year. Toss me a PM if you want to know more about it or have specific questions on prospective PIs to do rotations with.

I have not received the official email, but on asking the MCB Director told me I have been selected. Need to decide on Molecular Biology Program at the University of Utah and MCB Program at the UMASS.

Received my official letter of rejection today from the Dean. No acceptances as yet.

@esotericboy…Is it MCB or GSBS, Umassmed? Still waiting. Nothing from them yet.

i think esoteric boy applied to mcb at umass, amherst

I was talking about UMASS Amherst. Do you guys know which one is better between UMASS Amherst MCB and Utah Molecular Biology.
