<p>thanks to fallbiomed2011 for the international applicants thread, it’s really useful :)</p>

<p>is anyone of you applying to Rockefeller University? I received the admission package today, I was like ‘OMG’ when I saw the FedEx package!</p>

<p>I also got admission to Berkeley’s Nutrition PhD program last week.</p>

<p>oulileo, most of the programs you applied are almost the same as mine. If your JHU professor told you your stats is bleak, then I’ll throw out my hope in an ocean of insecurity. hehe… </p>

<p>GSK interview invite via email (dates: Jan 18-20)! Pretty excited.</p>

<p>My stats:</p>

<p>International applicant (non-US degree).
Cum. GPA: 3.52 Major GPA: 3.76
GRE 800Q 580V 4.0AW
1.5 years research experience all focussed on cancer (3 different labs)
My LORs are pretty solid, which I believe played a huge factor.</p>

<p>This thread is a great idea! I’m from Brazil (never studied at the US) and, unfortunately, I have not received any feedback yet… I have applied to:

  • Mount Sinai School of Medicine – GSBS
  • CWRU - BSTP
  • U. of Toronto - DI
  • U. of Colorado, Denver – IGP
  • U. of Pittsburgh – IBSGP
  • U. of Alabama at Birmingham – GBSP
  • U. of Vermont – CMBP
  • U. of Connecticut – IGP</p>

<p>My Stats:

  • My GRE scores are: V. 470 / Q. 770 / AW. 3.5
  • TOEFL: 110
  • Undergrad GPA: 7.8/10 (final year GPA: 9.3/10)
  • M.S. GPA: 3.83/4</p>

<ul>
<li>3 nice recommendation letters, I think</li>
<li>I also have 4 years of lab experience and some teaching experience (44h)</li>
<li>1 paper to be submitted (second author) and 1 manuscript in preparation (1st author), a text book chapter and 5 poster presentations (1st author) at national and international conferences (an honors mention at one of them)</li>
<li>Also received some fellowships, a travel grant, got 10 out of 10 at my undergrad honors thesis and got the highest score at the M.S. application (~50 applicants)…</li>
</ul>

<p>I don’t have idea about what universities would accept me as I have a low GRE verbal score and low grades at important disciplines such as Cellular Biology, Basics Immunology, Genetics… To ameliorate my situation, at the end of my undergrad studies and at my M.S studies I had better grades at more specific disciplines…</p>

<p>If you have any idea of my chances please let me know! :)</p>

<p>for all of you who applied to Columbia, and did not hear anything yet: I asked the department if all the invites have been sent already, and the response was:</p>

<p>“The international applications have not been reviewed but will be so shortly.”</p>

<p>This is at least true for the Metabolic / Nutrition department (since I know that some of you already heard from the Integrative Program)…</p>

<p>@ashmaniac09: Hi, I’m looking to apply for PhD Biomedical Sciences next yr.
What visa did you get from Rockefeller University? Do they offer H1b? I’m curious since I plan to do post-doc after the PhD and if it is a J1 visa not sure i would be able to do a post doc (due to the 2yr home-country physical presence policy).</p>

<p>Also, I noticed Rockefeller University isnt listed on : <a href=“https://www.aamc.org/members/great/61056/great_predoc_programs.html[/url]”>https://www.aamc.org/members/great/61056/great_predoc_programs.html&lt;/a&gt; and it has biomedical sciences. I believe I might be looking at the wrong PhD Biomedical Sciences school list. Which list of schools should i be looking at?</p>

<p>I do not know about the type of visa, because I did not accept Rockefeller’s offer yet, but my guess is that it will be a F1 visa. When I know more about it, I can let you know.</p>

<p>I was not aware of the aamc list of biomedical schools, but I just had a quick look at it, and I realize it is (of course) not complete. But if you check out this forum, you will find plenty of good schools :)</p>
