US Presidential Scholars Program

The thing that motivated my DD was the possibility of honoring her teacher should she win.

@ski_racer I have ideas but I think the character count is bothering me. I mean, 7000 characters is just so much room to write! Have you been hitting the character count with your essays?

@moosiechica88 I can definitely relate to your son- I’m just burnt out at this point. I probably wrote around 20 supplemental essays and I’m still writing a bunch of essays for scholarships, and my motivation is pretty drained. However, I’m not a winter athlete or doing an independent research project, so I’m sure your son is even more burnt out than I am. Good luck to him with all of his apps and endeavors:)

@livv13 My 1600 char essays are around 1300 to 1500. I’m gonna mostly ignore the limit on the long one. As long as it’s above 3500 and the writing is clear, concise, and from the heart, it’s all good.

Do we need to be politically neutral in our essays?

DD didn’t worry about the character count. I would suggest answer the prompts, don’t go over (it won’t let you).

Do you want to win?

@aynrandfan heck to the yes. I want to go to the WH and passive aggressively insult everyone there. I will not be silenced.

Lol @ski_racer. I know. This whole thing feels incredibly ironic. Good luck. See you in DC.

@aynrandfan Yeah, I wanna win-- but I’m literally such a political person. Ugh this is hard.

Be yourself. The essay is about telling your story. If politics is important to you, tell it like it is. The last time I checked, essays aren’t read by political appointees.

@univbound101 if u wanna win, I would keep to a neutral topic. I wouldn’t trust this administration to welcome criticism.

Does anyone know if a recommendation from the principal is required for your application? My school claims they want all my work in by today so they can submit a recommendation before the principal goes on vacation (which is causing me a major time crunch), however I see no indication of that in my application or in the letter sent to me. My school is known to not understand scholarships that well, so I’m wondering if they are confused. Does anyone know how this “recommendation” works?

@insertcleverpun I believe the principal’s input is required but I don’t know if they have to write any extensive recommendation. I thought my DD’s guidance counselor provided that for her. But I know the principal was involved because he asked my DD directly if she planned to complete the application. Ours is a big public school so the principal doesn’t get involved unless he has to. Hope that helps. Good luck.

@insertcleverpun after my recommender submitted all their stuff, I got a confirmation email that everything had been received. Shortly after, I got an email saying my principal review was complete. I’m not sure what that was, as it wasn’t mentioned in my part. I think it was mentioned in the recommender’s part. But yes, your principal does need to do something.

The principal has to review and sign the Secondary School Report. I am also struggling to contact my principal to finish out the PSP application.

Hey everyone! I have a question about the application. We have to state our first choice college option, but what should we do if we haven’t heard back from a bunch of schools yet?

My DD put down her hopeful first choice. Most candidates will not know where they will be accepted yet.

@univbound101 my DD got an email that her principal had signed off on her high school info. So hopefully you will receive confirmation that your secondary school report was signed off on. If you don’t get an email, I would check with your principal’s office tomorrow since the application distinctly states that you are responsible for making sure the info gets submitted from your school.

@dancinginastorm I just wrote in “undecided”
