2017-2018 Presidential Scholars Program

Have you heard anything back from your state yet?

I believe we hear sometime in late January, at least according to previous scholars.

here’s a lotta good information: https://www2.ed.gov/programs/psp/faq.html

any ideas what the score range will be for nominations?

@h0kulani As I understand it, you almost certainly need a 36/1600, though in some more scarcely populated states, a 35/1590 may suffice.

Nominations came out today. I received one with a 36 ACT, if anyone was wondering.

I was nominated in Idaho with 35/1570. I suspect there’s more to it than test scores, because I was the only nominee from my school even though I wasn’t the highest scorer. A girl with a 1580 and low GPA (3.3ish) was not nominated. My GPA is a 4.0.

From Florida.
I got it with a 36 (36/36/34/36) and a 1550. I have a ~4.47 and a ~3.75.
Friend got it with a 36(36/35/36/35) and a 1540. He has a 4.8x and a 4.0.
Good luck to everyone!

Hi everyone, I was nominated for Presidential Scholar of the Arts (Music, from YoungArts). I know that being nominated for Presidential Scholar doesn’t matter significantly to top tier colleges, but how much does being a Pres. Scholar of the Arts candidate (and eventual semifinalist) matter? As an FYI, YoungArts nominates ~60 candidates each year from a pool of ~161 finalists, which represent the top 2% of contest entries.

S18 from New Hampshire got nominated with a 35(36/34/36/35) and a 1510, GPA UW is 4.0. So perfect scores are not required to get nominated in some states. Three kids from his very small class (75 seniors) got nominated this year.

As I understand it, they convert all test scores to ACT scores over a two year period. My DD got nominated scoring a 1520 and a 35 (36/35/35/35). However, she did not miss a question in the math section of the SAT and did not miss a question in the English section of the ACT. GPA is only a 3.75 and I’m not sure that really makes a difference until entrance to the semi-finalist level.

Yay! DD is a semifinalist. https://www2.ed.gov/programs/psp/2018/semifinalists.pdf
