USA grad school question

I am an international student and have gotten into Waterloo and Umich Ann Arbor for undergrad CS? I eventually wanna do a masters in CS or MBA from a top US college, such as: Stanford, MIT, Harvard, e.t.c. I know that it is really tough, but I still wanna give it a shot. Would I get some extra “points” by the admission committees of these grad schools for getting a undergrad degree from uMich when compared to Waterloo. Basically, would an undergrad CS degree from uMich increase my chances of getting into these colleges when compared to an undergrad CS degree from Waterloo. Thanks for the help.

You don’t even know if you want an MS or MBA so how can you be selecting “top” programs at this point? You are putting the cart before the horse. Both of the schools you are considering are great schools, so just pick one and excel there. You’ll be fine.

Waterloo. Canada has much friendlier immigration policies than the US, and has better control over its COVID-19 situation. It isn’t clear right now if new international students will even be able to get visas for the US for this fall.

By the time you finish your degree, the current pandemic is likely to be under control, and maybe there will be more favorable immigration policies in the US. If so, that would be the time to worry about whether you want to come to the US for grad school. Any grad school worth attending in the US is familiar with Waterloo. Completing your undergraduate education there will not limit your future.

I agree that you’re putting the cart before the horse. I work in tech and both Michigan and Waterloo are top-regarded schools and in the top 5 schools we source interns and new hires from. Pick whichever one you like best.

As an international student, I tend to agree with happymomof1 here - especially if you are attending in the next two years, I might select Waterloo simply because of the pandemic. The pandemic is likely to at least partially disrupt the 2020-2021 school year; in the U.S., most universities have moved to a hybrid or fully-online model. Canadian schools seem more poised to return in the fall - Waterloo’s page discusses wearing face masks on campus but otherwise appears to be welcoming students back (https://uwaterloo.ca/coronavirus/). Michigan is going the hybrid approach (https://campusblueprint.umich.edu/fall-announcement).
