USA June 2011 SAT Critical Reading Thread

i’m pretty sure it was. the basically asked why Drudge was mentioned. And the author mentioned Drudge to point out how public figures don’t have to address internet bloggers/gossipers and can disregard them, yet, they cannot fully disregard them because actual news reports(ex. Washington Post) can create stories from this sort of gossip.

@classiclays -

i think an answer choice was to counterbalance.

It was not because the National Enquirer failed to verify accuracy. It was because a specified group of “gossipers” read it. It said that a sentence after.

what graceee said is what i put…in fact it made the claim that the national enquirer MIGHT’VE even BEEN truthful

1) So was the “want” question definitely that she felt responsible? That’s what I had but I changed it to the “selfish” answer…no idea why. ):
2) What were the other choices with the “Loquacity” question?
3) What were any (preferably all) of the choices with the Idiosyncratic question? I had it right but might have changed it last minute so i’d like to know the other choices…

for the censorship passage, i put one answer that was like “passage 1 emphasizes the limitations of schoolteachers while passage 2 says …” did anyone else get that one?

I absolutely hated the reading passages. The cyber gossip and gardening killed me. My morale dropped like no other. Sad thing is, I thought vocab was a piece of cake. :(

Lucas, I got that too.

Yeah that’s right. the text never mentioned the credibility of national enquirer, so the only option is that not everyone reeds it, only a small group of people.

A list of the more contentious questions might be a good idea…

1.) Genuine----> Hearfelt or Actual?
2.)Purpose of “Co-evolution” paragraph----> Develop counter arguement, Explain through illustration, (possibly others?)?
3.)Why Drudge example was given----> Credible sources are inclined to report his articles or complexity of cyber gossip?

That’s all I have for now, please expand on this list!

tjhsst: “people who can’t read strongly” I think anyone who uses this phrase is, by definition, stupid

I’ll bet a hundred dollars I did better than you.

tactless, pathetic

Heartfelt

Not sure

Complexity

well for comparing the censorship passages I put that passage 2 was more measured. any comments?

For the Indian girl passage, was the last line hopeful? I don’t even want to remember my answers on gossip and gardening…

yeah that was hopeful

Any predictions for this:
7-8 wrong
2 omit

:</p>

Genuine: Actual
Purpose of “Co-evolution” paragraph: Explain through illustration
Why Drudge example was given: complexity of cyber gossip
Last question for Indian passage: Hopeful

These are the answers that I got.

in the censor one… did anyone else get the one where passage 1 emphasizes the limitations of schoolteachers while passage 2 does something different?
Also got “passage 1 criticizes a topic harshly while passage 2 is more moderate/balanced.”

It was illustrate a point- complexity of gosssip on the internet- and the consensus on the bees one was agent (one who acts for another). Heartfelt was the right answer too.

that’s cool i wasn’t quite sure about it
