USA June 2011 SAT Critical Reading Thread

the extreme question was asking how the author of passage 2 would most likely respond to the characterization of librarians and teachers in passage 1. the answer choice with extreme, if i remember correctly, went something along the lines of, “extreme, because the author talks about the librarian/teacher’s limitations, not their ability to select stuff about whatnot.” i dont remember the last part as well. but i think that was the answer.

familiar but undeserved question was asking how the author of passage 2 would respond to passage 1 when it describes censorers at the beginning of the passage. familiar but undeserved was the answer, because at the beginning of passage 2, the author talks about how censorers are often seen as “bellicose” and other fancy schmancy words like that, and says instead that they are genuinely concerned for their children.

btw, genuine = heartfelt. the parents were genuinely concerned of corrupting influences in their children’s lives. thats what the WHOLE paragraph was about. theres absolutely NOTHING about actuality in there.

kevlee118- was the extreme one the last one on the first page of questions? What were the other answer choices?

uhhh… this is kinda trying my memory… but i feel like extreme was… C. if not C, then D .__. and i remember it being like… bottom of the left column? nooo idea. the other answer choices. phew. uhh, something about how author of passage 1 didn’t talk about other people who had a responsibility to defend selection processes… and yeah. i dont remember the others. one of the answer choices started with inaccurate, but it might be the same answer choice im talking about. im sorry, i cant quite remember. those were reaaally long answer choices.

ok, thanks. I think I put that :D. I remember that I kinda just put C as the answer as she called time. Thanks again!

I believe D was extreme.

So guys, the one with censorship was familiar but undeserved not obscure but familiar?
Also, there was a question with the Indian mother passage with the girl thinking to herself in italics something along the lines of, “I’m not the one that’s aging”. Was it bitterness? I felt like that word was too strong. I dunno.

I put familiar but undeserved but idk
I said that it was a realization for indian one

Passive, I think the answer for that was sad realization or something like that

What were the other answer choices for “familiar but undeserved” and what were they asking?

For the sentence completion that had “itinerant” as a choice, what ended up being the correct answer?

I think it was something like: John is fast but inaccurate, so he is _____.

efff i think i got 7-8 wrong, is there any chance for 700 with this? im just looking for 2250, i know i got 800 math and at least 750 writing, but i really needed to pull CR

7 wrong is a -9 or 58/67 => 700-710, so you might barely make it.

I’m fairly sure “churlishness” was experimental since I did not get it on my test. This should be removed from the post.

Inquisitive seems most likely since the gardener guy wanted to ask more questions— he was intrigued by learning about the “subject” plants

790 on the Literature SAT? I heard it is almost impossible! Good Job
And yeah the gardening passage was odd

did anyone else get like 4 C’s to end the section with the censorship passages?

Churlishness was not experimental. I had it and I had math exp.

Also, what was the one about mild discomfort?

I put guarded optimism, because the author said “It need not, however, be ugly” or something to that effect.

what passage dude?

Are we are that moralistic was an answer for the censorship passage? I remember that question referring to passage 2, so why isn’t the answer intellectual? Passage 2 seemed to emphasize the “book selecting” (rather than censoring) process as being intellectual.

The question in the Indian passage about why “want” is italicized hasn’t had much debate here, yet I thought this was a pretty difficult question. The only people who have mentioned it have said that the answer is she felt partially responsible, but i put that she doesnt know how to make amends. What is the reasoning behind that answer?
