Hi!! I’m a rising sophomore and am highly interested in starting bio Olympiad at my school. I thought I would start a thread for this year even though I know it’s pretty early.
I know what textbooks I should be studying but is there anything else I should be looking at besides the books
Also, if you have made it to camp or IBO, what was your experience? What is your main piece of advice?
Hey,
In addition to books, try doing all past papers. Also check out biolympiads.com since they have useful materials, handouts, tips and tricks. Be consistent and work hard throughout the year and take a few days off just before the exams. Also getting in a lab for some practical experience is very useful.
Hello! I am in 8th grade, and on my school’s science bowl team as the biology specialist. I heard about the USABO last year, and have started preparing for the USABO using Campbell and Reese’s Biology 11th edition. I know it is a little bit early to start preparing, but I want to make it to the semifinal round as a freshman. What other things do you think I could do to help me? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
There are 3 other textbooks you can use to increase your chances of being a semifinalist next year: the Essential Cell Biology by Albert’s 4th edition, Raven Biology of Plants 8th edition, and Human Physiology by Sherwood. I think there are a few chapters, especially about the angiosperms, that you should focus on from the plant book. Everything about human physiology is basically covered by the Campbell’s book, but you can use the one by Sherwood as a supplement. But, the Albert’s you should take a good look at. Good luck!
semis was pretty practical this year… sighh
