Usabo

Hi, I was wondering how much being a national finalist for the USABO (only 21 people out of around 9000 made it to this level) will help my chances of getting into top tier schools such as Stanford, MIT, Harvard, Duke, Johns Hopkins, Cornell, and Rice. Thanks for the input.

Anyone know?

maybe

01 srahc

it will help a lot. i imagine it helps even more so considering you were a junior at the time and a lot of the attendees are seniors, are they not? it might depend on the major you apply with, too...

you were a national finalist? How much did you study?

Umm, wow. How long have you been studying? I am a semifinalist, but I got 30/50 on the open exam (just at the cutoff) so I didn't do well on the next exam. Actually, i did well on the MC, but the FR was not so good...

I think this would be really impressive. On person from my school was a finalist a few years ago, and he went to Harvard. But he had like 17 APs and probably perfect SAT score.

I think it is probably comparable to getting one of those Research scholarships. Maybe just a step down from the Siemens award...

I actually didn't study much at all. I think I only studied the day of the semifinals. >_>" If I studied, I might have actually medaled. But thanks for the imput

lol you know Damon wang?

LOL, of course it will help like uhh big time!

yes, I do know Damon Wang XD He always wore his polo shirts buttoned to the way top. Cool Guy though.

Being a national finalist is a MASSIVE help...

It will help exactly 19384 utils.

Honestly, how naive are you to ask for a quantification?

^ what is wrong with you?

anyway...you said it yourself, only 21 out of about 9000. you have to be pretty damn good at biology to make it that far.
