Hey all. I’m new to this forum—well, I’ve never done any on-line forums, but this seems to be worth it. Got my LOA and nomination just before thanksgiving. I’m a 100 hour private pilot and starting my instrument training. Anyone else fly?
anyway…I’m just interested in talking to other people about the Academy.

I wish I flew. Its way too expensive...

I hope to fly someday.

Hello fellow 2010'er

Like you, I got an LOA and nom. before thanksgiving. Right now I'm at around 30 hours of flight time, and should hopefully be taking my private pilot's checkride late january.

Congrads on your LOA and nom! Welcome to the boards.

I agree, flying is extremely expensive to not only get, but maintain. Once i got to my post Associates Degree institute ill go active with my flying. Currently im not PPQ for the academy anyways (not even PNQ...hell, until i get my waiver im DQ. A waiver will make me CQ).

Hye, I have a Nom, that's it for now. I have about 50 hours of time, I want to try and get my PPL this winter break, I may or may not. I haven't flown for abou 1.5 months. Need to start it up again and get that license already! Good to see more pilots around!

let me join the club...I'm an avid flyer too, got somewhere between 40 and 50 hours, should be going for my private pilot very soon now...just out of curiosity, what is everyones training plane? I fly the good ol 152, but does anyone fly anything different?

I fly the 152, love that plane.

Like my fellow 2010r's I have recieved a Nomination an LOA, a completed file, and potential pilot status-- my question is have any of you received your official appointment yet? I haven't yet... my nomination came on December 3rd, does anyone know when appointments (other than presidential) starting coming out of the academy-- thanks...

I'm with you there Benjo6. No offical appointment here yet. It's been nearly 3.5 weeks here since I recieved both LOA and nomination and I still haven't seen anything. I know some people who had nominations when the first batch of LOA's just came out got appointments right then, so they must be sending them out. It might just be a case of paperwork backlog where they have to approve the appointments before they are sent out.

Yeah, appointments are out there; I got mine November 22, but then again, I also had a presidential nom. Haven't heard of any Congressional nom appointments yet...

If you have any questions about the Academy and want the perspective of a current cadet, there are several here (myself included, although I'm a firstie and you may be able to relate to the fourth class cadets a bit more).

Welcome to the site.

Most of my time is in 152s---what a fun airplane! haha unless theres <8 kts of wind....then its a little bit of work! I'm headin up in a couple hours...haven't been in over 2 months...and that was in a A24 Beech Sierra...4 seats, retractable, Garmin 430 GPS, constant spped prop, 200 horsepower...thats a different kind of fun! I have a couple hours in 172s (no different than a 152...don't let anyone tell you otherwise.) and like .5 in a Pitts Special...that was a good time!

oh yeah, on the LOAs and nominations...I got a call from my senators office yesterday...the secretary said that she got a call from the Academy and told me that they were mailing everything on the 12th...can't wait to sign my life away! haha

Supposed to go up on a three leg cross country today and it got cancelled for the third time because of weather.

I hate Iowa weather!

My dd shares your pain. It's been snowing every Tuesday or Thursday (the only days she doesn't have classes at the college) for a month. She still has to get in that first cross-country trip to UT. Maybe this next week!

Hmm...I wonder what y'alls motto will be? You'll get to chant something all the time, it'll be great. I.e., "06 Feel the fire!" "07 License to kill!" or mine, "09 Our time!"

Yep...Whatever it is, you'll hate it pretty soon...I don't know how you'll say your year...010?

Heheh..."010 Do it again!" lol..."010 Let's be friends!" Woooooo I crack myself up...

010 Let's be friends!

Wowww....

Heartcross- That's exactly my problem too. Saturday and sunday are my only days I can fit in a 3-4 hour cross country and the weather just won't cooperate. Your dd's going to have a great time with cross countries. Navigation adds a fun/challenging element to the flight rather than just sitting in the pattern and taking off/landing etc.
