Hang in there everyone. There are actually smaller merit awards that are often tacked on that you may hear about in the days to come. My Trustee received $4000/year in addition and it was called a University Scholarship. My S2 learned he received a Bing Scholarship (SCA) which is listed nowhere but was extremely generous. I truly sympathize with all the emotions expressed here, since we were also stuck in the middle (not able to get FA, but live in a very high-cost-of-living city, etc). I’ll also take a sec to say that if you were selected to interview for merit at USC you were merit finalists. Now, you’re are getting notified of which scholarship you are being awarded. I wish USC didn’t tell folks they are Presidential or Trustee finalists–because it can lead to let-down among a crop of the most talented admits they have! But wait until you see if you receive any more good news, smaller awards, honors colleges, TO, etc, and then compare to your other magnificent admissions (I’m certain you’ll have some). All will be fine!
I am just confused. Even if it’s a token $500, I would just like to KNOW.
I got the Presidential I interviewed for. Will the other scholarships that get “tacked” on be included in the FA package released on the 27th?
@Nomorelurker Congratulations on the Presidential for your son! I am waiting very impatiently for S to check his portal as I don’t have his login info. He is on an admitted student visit to another school and can’t log in anytime soon. I’ll post when I find out. And thanks for starting this thread, the CO2022 thread has been blowing up and I can’t keep up.
Congratulations <:-P to all awardees and hugs to those who didn’t get news they wanted.
Sigh, finalist for Trustee but no update to portal. Wondering if others still haven’t gotten a message posted to Admissions Decisions? And whether this means nothing was awarded after being in the running for full tuition? Searched prior year threads to see if there were declines without any award and whether they were posted later than awards, but didn’t find anything. Maybe they snail mail bad news and don’t update the portal unless it’s good news.
Hey guys. I am so sorry that some of you are still waiting on your results. I hope it is some glitch or mistake. That would truly be awful to go from a trustee to nothing, seems unlikely. @saltyandpeppery, did you think your interview went well? Did you receive a postcard from your interviewer? How about you @bigchoices2018. Did you get a postcard from your interviewer a week or two later?
@hafamama, many thanks. I hope your S will have similar luck. Even with the Presidential, we will need to look at financial aid and still have two more results coming in the next week. Yep, the other USC thread is going to be pretty lit up through the weekend!
@ApexDude congrats. I hope more scholarships will tack on 3/27. Did you apply for any others specifically?
To the rest who are still waiting, I am appalled at this process and can only imagine how difficult the waiting must be. S was told by Emory a week or two ago that they would post results to their portal last night at 6pm (EST) March 22 and he got his result right at 6pm as promised. Why is that so difficult for USC?
I just noticed that those who were awarded scholarships all mentioned Presidential, nobody mentioned Trustee. Is it possible that Trustee have not been assigned yet?
@psapienza, I believe it was carmen00 who posted she interviewed for trustee and got presidential. Other trustees have posted here too.
Yes, Trustees have been reported on this forum.
Curious if those who got what they interviewed for got a postcard from their interviewer. S received a very nice one about a week ago saying how impressed they were.
I did receive a postcard and I thought the interview went well, we got into discussing financial equality and capitalism and talked about Marxism…but who knows, maybe it didn’t go as well as I thought, LOL
@Nomorelurker I did not receive a postcard in the mail. Nonetheless, found out this morning that I received what I interviewed for, the Presidential scholarship. Maybe it’s different for Marshall. That is what I applied to.
Interview felt solid and got a nice postcard. You’d think they’d post all decisions at the same time, like schools manage admissions notifications.
@madbean thank you for this information! Do you remember how these scholarships were awarded (mail, portal, FA package)?
@jshep29, congrats on your Presidential for the Marshall Business school. Maybe they did not do the postcards. Are you leaning towards choosing USC?
@saltyandpeppery and @bigchoices2018 , the fact that you got a nice postcard makes me think that you both are still in the running, hopefully just a glitch with IT and getting the notices out.
My personal experience (2 kids graduated from USC–loved it), is dated. Frankly, I’m chagrined (appalled) that the Admissions office doesn’t have the kindness to give the date of notification for scholarships and update all portals at once. Each year, I hope they’ll finally join the 21st century on this, but so far… the same stress aggravations. What we’ve also observed–as soon as students/parents get their answers, there is a lot of silence around CC.
Back ten and seven years ago, notification of additional smaller merit awards (University scholarship) happened by posted mail, small envelope to my son who got the Trustee. I think it arrived around the time all the reg decisions were being received. No portal update on it until later, though. My second son was admitted in the regular cycle and the information/award of his “surprise” merit scholarship was just one more letter in the big packet. It could have been easily overlooked and we were pretty shocked/happy. Lastly, FA comes a week or so after the reg decisions packets are mailed. There are nails being bitten a long long time until all the important information is finally received and families can compare their choices/offers and costs.
Last point: the postcards mean nothing. When there is a student present, they are asked to write them to each student. Sometimes there isn’t a student present at the interview and a prof may do it. Sometimes these get lost or a few get skipped. This is not a reflection of how you did–only a reflection of the intricacies of administering over a thousand interviews, postcards, and so on.
In the past, the time of notification of scholarship decisions had NOTHING to do with outcomes. It’s hard to tell you to relax, but… try.
And good luck still flowing to all who are waiting.
@Nomorelurker Thank you! Congrats to your son too! USC has always been my top school so I most likely will end up there. So happy and thankful that I received the scholarship!
4am here in Nigeria folks! Still waiting. Maybe by midnight PT it’ll be time to give up the ghost. Going back to bed tho!
Yeah I am pretty disheartened by absolutely no update…tomorrow is another day?
For the other merit scholars for Marshall, what other schools are you considering?
