do we get an email saying that an admissions update has been posted for the merit scholarship or do we just have to keep checking the portal??
Congrats to all who have gotten a message indicating that you have maintained your scholarship that you interviewed for, including @925275 . For those who did not, including @yungsnake99 , hopefully with some FA, you will be able to attend USC. I believe FA will come out on March 27.
Itâs 7am (EST) and still nothing in the portal here in GA. Last night around 6pm, S got the good news that he was accepted to Emory. They had indicated the portal decisions would be last night at 6pm (EST) and lo and behold everyone got their decisions at that time. Donât know whatâs up with USC and their IT support.
@carmen00, are you saying that you cannot stack the Annenberg $25,000 and the half tuition of Presidential of $27,000? Because if you can, then itâs only $2,000 less per year than what Trustee would have been, or $8,000 total over four years. Hope you can work it out.
@ApexDude, and @MrReshokar, no way of knowing what sign it is but at least half a dozen students on CC in at least three states and I think you posted you were international, have posted that they still have no update. Itâs likely that most or all will have thier update by 3 or 4pm (EST) today, which is what Admissions originally told me and one other person who called two days ago.
@Nomorelurker I can. However, instead of trustee, there is a small amount of tuition left over. For freshman year, itâs only a small amount. But as tuition increases, so will that amount. Thatâs why it could be up to $17k extra (but probably not that much because I overestimated % increase).
Also, my family wouldâve already been in a tight spot with USC. However, I think we may be able to make this work.
Go check portals!!! My Dâs just posted within the last few minutes. Happy to report that she got the Presidential Scholarship, which was the one she interviewed for! Iâm so excited that sheâll be attending USC and living in the beautiful Village!!!
7:30am (EST). Congrats @Marcie123 on your daughterâs Presidential. S was also just notified that he maintained the Presidential that he interviewed for. Very grateful to have this opportunity and hope he will be able to attend USC. Will wait for FA on March 27 and still will hear from Georgetown and Stanford in the next week.
@carmen00, at ExploreUSC, I realize this probably will not be possible, but they said you can lock in tuition without any increase if you agree to pay all four years upfront. We would not be able to do that but some can eliminate the tuition increase. I hope it wonât be 4% every year given the starting full tuition is $54,000. I believe the half tuition of Presidential will cover whatever it is each year including the increase but I could be wrong.
D got Presidential, which is what she interviewed for!
@Nomorelurker congrats to your son as well! Itâs 4:40am here. First I was too nervous to sleep. Now Iâm too excited! I canât wait for my D to wake up and find out! She had given me permission to check the portal as long as I didnât tell her the result.
Iâll need a nap today for sure!
Sâs portal just updated as well. He interviewed for Presidential and that is what he received. He felt the interview went just okay, so he had no expectation of being bumped up. He is NM, so it ended up being a wash.
@Marcie123, same here. I was up til 1:30am (EST) and finally got about five hours sleep. S was very happy that he was not bumped down. Our family will make a decision by early April, unless Stanford is in play, then weâll have to fly out there. Have a nice nap. I could use one too! @FutureUSCdad, congrats to you and your family. Are you still waiting on other decisions or has your D made a decision to attend USC?
Any fresh portal updates? Still nothing here. @planner03 did yours just update at the time of your posting?? Freaking out here
@MrReshokar, a few more have posted updates since 1:30am (EST). Good luck to you sir. Check your portal again and hopefully it will be good news.
@Nomorelurker Thanks a million for your support and encouragement on this thread! Means a lot that someone can take out of his time to sooth the anxiety of someone like me all the way in Africa!
@MrReshokar, you are most welcome. I joined CC last December but decided to start this thread back in January to support those who were nominated for an early scholarship interview at USC. It is definitely quieter than the RD USC Class of 2022 thread. I post over there as well, but that thread will light up over the next few days about RD applicants, lots more anxiety for 55,000 RD applicants, so Iâll mostly be around this weekend checking on this thread. Let us know what you hear in the coming hours and take some deep breaths!
@Nomorelurker Sure thing! Fight on!
Sheâs done, and pretty much has been since she did a summer session last year between junior and senior yearâŠit was just a matter of how much sheâd get once we got the acceptance a couple of months ago.
She applied elsewhere (but no Ivies, no Stanford/NW/Duke level). Denied at UCLA (we are OOSâEast coast), but felt she was already Trojan anyway, so didnât care. Accepted at UCSB, waiting on UCB but will withdraw app. (Sheâs been CA-dreaming for awhile). Offered full schollie to Fordham business school, select honors program (âIgniteâ, only 25 accepted), in at Boulder/Leeds, UDenver, UMiami, Sta. Clara, all with significant $$$ ($22-36K/year). Also Michigan/Ross (token $$) and Emory (though I donât think she heard there yet, and may have pulled app.)
Some concern on our part she didnât stretch enough, but ultimately, she wound up with her first choice, even if she had applied and gotten in to one of them. Plus I understand Ivies and Stanford/Duke/NW/etc usually take the position that âeveryone who gets in is meritorious, so $$ are need basedâ-- had she applied and gotten in places like that weâd be weighing possibly stronger reputation against paying the full retail price. Plus USC feels like it has gotten very close in reputation, and is rising, so very happy. #FightOn !
Wait guys! posting again! are you getting an email saying your scholarship decision is posted or is your portal just updating and you have to check?
@singaporeseeker, no email. Scholarship results are on the portal. Click on Admission Decision and there should be an updated âScholarship Award Notificationâ under âCurrent Messagesâ. Good luck!
@FutureUSCdad, looks like your D had a solid list which included matches, safeties, and some reaches. We are also OOS. S has done well but USC remains in a top contender. We visited Berkeley and decided not to apply. Michigan is a great school but not much for OOS applicants. Will see how the next week plays out. You must be relieved to be done and have your decision. Hope we will be in a similar position by early April. Fight On!
@planner03, still nice to not get bumped down after the interview. Itâs especially tough on those who flew across the country and not get what was interviewed for. Is USC your sonât first choice? I understand as NMF he will have to select a school by May 1?
Good luck to your sonâŠItâs nice to have USC+$$ in hand, whatever else happens!
Now, we need to work on #D2, who is wrapping up her sophomore HS year!
@FutureUSCdad, definitely was great to have early admission and the merit award in hand. Would have been a bummer to fly across the country and not maintain the award although for some students with Deans who can obtain a fair amount of financial aid may still be able to make USC work. No doubt your wealth of experience this round will help your D2 when the time comes :-).
