Hi everyone,
I have some questions about the Ph.D. program at USC. Number 1: Is it worth it? I would do it in hopes of becoming a university professor.
Number 2: How long does it typically take? I see that it’s funded up to 3 years, is it possible to finish it within that time? I don’t want to be in a Ph.D. program from longer than 5 and I have a friend who just finished a Ph.D. in history at UCSB in three years but I don’t know if it’s possible at Annenberg. If I have to do more than 5 years of school I may as well go to med school haha (I have the prereqs done).
Information about me if it helps:
UCLA Transfer Student - Senior - Sociology major
UCLA GPA: 3.92
CC GPA: 3.76 - Double majored in Communication Studies and Biological Sciences
I’ve got a bunch of honor society memberships and honor roll every semester/quarter I’ve been in college but I have to work a lot to afford school so my ECs aren’t spectacular. Though, I’ve had two internships, one as a Communications Intern for a congresswoman and another as a film development intern at a production company in LA.
The best EC I have right now is that I’m an undergraduate researcher for a tenured sociology professor here at UCLA, and will be next quarter as well. I don’t think I will have an opportunity to do research in the communication department, however.
Any insights are helpful, thank you!
