@ttg1125, yes, we received the SDA email.
@gabbbayyy you are the OP of the RHP 2018 thread!
What’s an SDA email?
Have any of you heard of acceptances to USC for business with a bit lower SAT but high end GPA? Just trying to gage my chances here! Also how holistic are they really?
this was the most exciting week of all senior year for me, just to wait for this package. I dont want to give false hope on a specific day/time- but i received my fall acceptance package around 11 am on Saturday in New York. Good luck to everyone!!! and don’t worry if you don’t get in, its not the end of the world
@hgomezpersonal, Yes, PoliSci is popular but they also have a popular interdisciplinary major in the Philosophy Dept called Philosophy, Politics and the Law which I believe may be a pre-law track major.
@mmstanfordbound SDA is School of Dramatic Arts. They sent SDA applicants an email yesterday with the dates decisions are released and a reminder of the SDA open house on April 7th. @ttg1125 and I were wondering if all SDA applicants got the email or if only the accepted students got the email, because just like the postcard, received only by some (but not all) on 2/22/18, why would anyone go to an all day open house if they were rejected from the school? I think everyone probably got the postcard (some lost in the mail) and they assume if you are denied you just won’t come to the open house on April 7th. All correspondence does say, “receipt of this does not constitute an acceptance” but I will come back to this post after we receive decisions and verify whether or not my S was admitted and maybe put this postcard speculation to rest for next years applicants. I still have not found anyone who had received a postcard last year that did not get in. The years before that it seems two potcards went out, the first to all applicants in December (before auditions) and then a second to only admitted students in mid March. Good luck to all!!
@pdxtigermom yes I am hahaha
Hey guys! Just a quick question: does USC only send acceptance letters via the mail, or rejections/waitlists as well?
@nomorelurker The in-state university that my daughter’s friend is now attending is a fine school and the first choice for tens of thousands of applicants. And I am sure that she will ultimately do well and thrive there. My point was that she only applied to 6 universities overall, and she ranked this option as one of her two safeties. She clearly expected to get in to one of the 4 perceived matches that she had applied to, but all 4 schools turned out to be unattainable reaches. In the end, she was very disappointed. My point was that she made false assumptions based on her stellar stats and URM status. Years ago such assumptions may have proven to be accurate, but today’s ultra-competitive climate makes it much more difficult to bank on any projected admission. There are simply way too many qualified candidates applying to each of these elite colleges and universities, which is why it has become prudent to apply to more and more schools as a precaution in hopes of having at least a few quality choices come May 1st.
@bmc100 Realistically, a legacy status does not mean that much anymore. There are just way too many applicants to allow it to carry that much weight. In recent years, only roughly 1,000 out of 10,000 or so legacy applicants per cycle have been admitted by the end of March. Many more though are offered TTP as an option though.
@hamparyanmomager Regarding SDA (School of Dramatic Arts)… in the past, those mailed invites have in fact been an early indication of admission. They were only sent to those getting in to USC and also assigned to SDA as their major. At least that was the case in 2014, when my daughter was admitted and to SDA. CC posts then and from before also indicated the same. It would be rather cruel otherwise.
@chyrs1 Both are mailed. You will also receive an email suggesting that you check your admission portal.
Good luck applicants…
@njsmommy Congrats on his admissions to date. Hopefully USC SCA comes through for him as well…
@WWWard gosh I hope that holds true this year too!! Thanks!!!
I got a mail coming from the Keck Medicine of USC. But I didn’t even apply to the medicine school, I applied to the Marshall School of Business. Is it a good sign that I am getting this mail right before admission packages are sent out?
@hamparyanmomager Someone on the Theater/Drama board reported receiving the SDA email yesterday even though her son withdrew his USC application and never auditioned. So the email may not indicate acceptance. I guess we’ll find out in a few days. The wait is brutal!
@hamparyanmomager You’re welcome. We were of course surprised ourselves back in 2014 to receive the SDA invite in the mail (to differentiate from just an email) before admission decisions were even announced. I then of course went online and scoured through the history of CC posts on the topic, and other posters who had gone through the same experience in prior years also told me what I am suggesting to you now. I have never seen a single example of that mailed SDA invitation not serving as an advanced notice of admission. And rationally it only makes sense for such to continue. Inviting those that they already know have been rejected would not make any sense whatsoever. I am quite sure that you will be able to confirm the same in the next few days And in future years, you too will be able to share the story…

For my supplement I chose “what is something essential for understanding you,” wrote about my Cambodian heritage and how it drives me to pursue a career in developmental economics. Built a solid theme with my “plans to pursue academic interests at USC” making the path I want to take pretty clear.

@ZoruaUSC Merit scholarships do not come as a check. The money is credited to your student account. I was under the impression that the trustee’s covers “only” full tuition (bunny ears because that’s so much money). However, in your fantastic circumstance of possibly being eligible for full tuition two different ways, it is possible that they may allow the money to be used for other things that go on your account, like housing & dining. Otherwise, yes, they would cancel each other out. I would call financial aid and ask!
@Naevia, hmmm, definitely won’t believe he is accepted until I see the white box, but at least it points more towards yes than no, at least in my mind, hahaha. And YES the wait is brutal!! A few more days…
Does anyone know of anyone who was admitted to Price? I haven’t seen any Price admits in the forums for the past few years. The Class of ‘21 profile shows that only 1% of freshmen that enrolled were Price students.
@WWWard yes, if this holds true I will share the story next year to others waiting on pins and needles for a glimmer of hope. Fingers crossed. Thanks again.
