USC Class of 2022

Sorry I meant not shipped out

I’m feeling so discouraged right now. I’ve been rejected to UCLA, northwestern and UCSB. I want to get into USC more than anything and I already feel so dejected.

@mayoosh You know, you’re more than qualified to get accepted into any school you want - it’s just that college admissions are such a crapshoot, especially with our year being the most applicants ever and most colleges have overenrolled the past few years so acceptance rates are super low. God has a plan for us all.

Listening to podcast on Admissions twitter. 13000 applications for Viterbi School of Engineering. As Viterbi made up 14% of admssion offers last year that would equate to 1165 offers of admission out of the 8320 mentioned above for a admission offer percentage of 8.97%. This process is reaching insanity level and something needs to be done to lower the number of applications a student sends.

@JohnGaltIII, lowering the number of applications a student sends is not going to happen anytime soon. Colleges are driven by improving their ranking and “selectivity” of an institution plays a big role in the rank. Colleges want to increase the number of students applying because a) it improves their rank as the number of open slots is not going to increase year over year, b) any costs that an institution may incur reading that extra application is kinda-sorta covered by the application fee (colleges have nothing to lose).

@Holistic2 I agree. Schools like Harvard and Princeton are marketing to students both on social media and with traditional methods who have ZERO shot of an admittance just to drive application numbers. I do think schools like USC, Michigan and others are caught up not because they are strenuously trying to drive application numbers but because so many outstanding students see them as an additional reach school they should put if they apply to the Ivies, Stanford, etc.

Overall USC Admission rate was between 11 and 12% according to Podcast on USC Admission Twitter

how exactly will the scholarship decision show up in the portal? is it under financial aid, or is there some other place? just wanna know where to look! i’m so anxious for my son! :sunglasses:

Waiting on the picture of the boxes all going to the trucks…hope they get out earlier today than later today, that helps expand the reach of the 2 day zone…

@kevbostic You will get a new message with letter.

@CADREAMIN when will the scholarship updates be released?

what time today do packages / rejections go out? I got informed delivery on right now so hopefully I dont get a notification that a small letter is coming in from cali…

@JohnGaltIII - I think the 11.7% admission rate was for the 13,000 applications to Viterbi. I suspect the overall admission rate will be somewhere between 12.7% to 13.3%.

@WWWard haha thank you! :slight_smile:

@JohnGaltIII - The podcast is worth listening to, particularly for students who are interested in the Trojan transfer plan and spring admits. Those two subjects are discussed in depth.

So they’re only accepting around 8300 people this year, not 9000?!

@chigirl99 It could be as low as 8100 total. Last year they admitted 9042 with the goal of having 3000 enroll. But 3358 enrolled, with a jump upward from 34 to 37% with the yield rate. If they still only want to enroll 3000, they would cap it at 8108… assuming the same yield rate. But based on different #s floating around, it could be as many as 8300 accepted. Either way… at least 742 less should be admitted… even though 8K more applied vs last year. Thus… a 13% acceptance rate this year vs 16% last year. But it all really hinges on their perceived yield rate and goal of netting only 3000 new freshmen.

@JohnGaltIII Too bad universities in the States aren’t as straightforward about qualifications as the English schools. Just eliminate up front those who are not qualified. Reduce the numbers of applications, give students a more realistic view and save some heartache and angst. Here’s Oxford’s requirements for US applicants from their website:

American education system

Oxford will accept both the old-system and the redesigned SAT. Students sitting the redesigned SAT will need to achieve a total score of 1,470 (out of 1,600). We do not require the optional essay in the redesigned SAT. Any candidates with a test date prior to, or including, January 2016 will be expected to achieve the SAT Reasoning Test with at least 1,400 in Critical Reading and Mathematics and also 700 or more in Writing, giving a combined score of at least 2,100 (out of 2,400).
OR
ACT with a score of at least 32 out of 36

AND

Grade 5 in three or more Advanced Placement Tests in appropriate subjects
OR
SAT Subject Tests in three appropriate subjects at 700 or better.

^^^ Some U.S. universities are. Thankfully USC is not one of them.

Does the figure of approximately 8100 admitted include spring admits?
