USC Class of 2022

I have a 3.93 UW gpa and 4.3 W gpa and just because of my SAT scores am relatively overlooked. Sucks but it’s the truth.

Does anyone know if they look at Mid-year grades when deciding?

my overall high school gpa is low bc of bad freshman and sophomore years. but I have an upward trend in gpa and in junior and senior year had a 3.8. do you think usc takes into account upward trends in gpa or just looks at overall?

I have a question, what is the timeline to find out if you moved up the queue when other students turn down their acceptance at USC? There are plenty of kids who apply to USC but are Ivy-qualified and will undoubtedly go to one of them. I couldn’t find it on the website. Thanks for any insight.

@ShawnWax oh okay that jump totally makes sense. I always thought it was 3.7 but who knows how outdated that number is

@consumermom - I think they build that estimated number into the acceptances. They accept more than they can take expecting a certain percentage will not attend due to finances or other opportunities

@ShawnWax - I may be incorrect but I believe the admitted SAT for last years middle 50% was higher at about 1440-1540. Could be wrong. Haven’t looked it up.

@consumermom I don’t know the exact information for USC, but I do know that in general colleges do not have a “queue” in a numbered sense for the waitlist. They most likely categorize the waitlist into types of student, and after examining those who have accepted their invitation to attend and those who rejected, they go back and invite those who they believe will best fit with or round out the class. Hope this helps!

I got a 34 on my ACT … my school doesn’t do grades on a 4.0 scale but my grade average is a 96 which is roughly 4.0 I believe. So, it feels good to be within the top end of their middle 50 but I’m still really stressed ahhhh.

@cmb018 I think you’ll get in, those are super impressive stats:) good luck!

Really hoping some miracle comes through w USC this weekend… I’ve been waitlisted at UVA and U of Notre Dame (two of my top choices) and really need something to work out!! :frowning:

It’s after 4:30pm (PST) and no portal update on scholarship/merit awards, so it’s looking like tomorrow is the day for the portal, as it will be white packages for some students in Southern California for one day delivery. Good luck and good night!

@jcwjnw99 It’s actually listed as 1350-1500, so I’d say there’s definitely been a big jump

@808college808 This seems to be such a competitive year for all colleges. Just our luck right! :))

@ucplsacceptme thank you! good luck to you too.

@coralee - Yes, you’re right. I hadn’t looked it up, just did.

@consumermom - USC doesn’t have a traditional waitlist. Their “waitlist” is the spring admits. If they did send out 8,000 admits today (fall/spring), then about 700-800 are spring admits. I believe once they get the enrolled students clarified, they will look at majors that are underpopulated and offer those students the chance at Fall admission. That’s where the bulk of the students come from to fill out the class.

On the USC admission twitter page, there is a podcast that talks in depth about the spring admit process and the Trojan Transfer Plan. A lot of questions are answered on the podcast.

With the admit rate dropping in one year from 16% to under 13%, it’s not looking like this will get any better going forward, especially if yield stays at 37% or even inches up higher. Assume 70,000 applicants next year and 75,000 the year after that (both these numbers represent less growth in applications than this year) with a 40% yield and USC is getting closer to a 10% admittance rate.

They posted on their Instagram that portals will be updated March 25th

Does USC admit based on who applied for financial aid?

please someone direct me to the podcast link!!! I cant find it on their twitter!

@mayoosh - Google USC admissions twitter. It’s only a few posts down. A couple people have tried to post the link but it doesn’t work. You can find it by doing the above. It may shave Viterbi as a reference but it covers way more than that. It also mentions that Viterbi’s acceptance this year was 11.7%.

At our school, an A receives 4.0, A- receives 3.7, B+ receives 3.3, B receives 3.0. Perhaps some of those kids with a 3.86 received some A- grades or even B+ grades.
